Simon Patterson, more famous for his part of the Dogzilla project, is bringing a solo release to you on 2Play Records. To top off this interesting sounding release, the two Macs have put in a tough remix for you too...
:: Simon Patterson - F16 :: 2Play :: 2PLAY014
A: F16 (Original) The Original of 'F16' kicks off with force into something with a very very psy-trance sounding vibe to it. The relentless rolling bass and the abrupt mini breaks of silence and sfx are unmistakable. The other obvious thing about this track is the huge breakdown. It begins with a sample of what, I assume, must be an F16 flying overhead. And it's loud. Ouch. Anyway, the breakdown then trances out as the main melody of this track is introduced and a pretty damn fine melody it is too. It is a long and thoughtful melody, with its long notes being backed up by some pokey staccato synths in the background. The force of the psy-trance bass and clear punchy kick combined with the full-on uplifting feeling generated by the melody create an excellent atmosphere. A wicked, wicked track.
B1: F16 (Mac & Mac Remix) On the flip, the masters of tech, Mac Zimms and Scott Mac have put in a remix. As you'd expect, the beats are heavy and forceful, the bass is thick and powerful and the percussion ices over the top perfectly. The breakdown has a much quieter F16 flying overhead, but the onset of melody is the same as in the Original. It only stays for the duration of the breakdown though - when the track drops back in it brings with it an awesomely vicious stabbing synth which cuts right through the track and dominates the sound. They also masterfully added in an off-beat techno hi-hat which adds in a really moody feeling and allows the track to just roll easily on and on. As far as tech trance goes, you'd be a fool to argue with Mac & Mac.
B2: F16 (Original Edit) The original Edit of 'F16' is just the same as the Original, but without the ear-splitting F16 fly-by. :-)
Conclusion:
What a fabulous release. Simon Patterson shows off his solo skills in a creative style of tech fused with psy-trance. Then of course you have the tech-trance excellence provided by Mac Zimms and Scott Mac on the flip. You can't go wrong, whatever side you choose to play.
