4 Strings man Carlo Resoort is back and solo on the Liquid imprint with a new 2 track EP...
:: Carlo Resoot - Aurora / Friday :: Liquid Reordings :: LQ059
A: Aurora You notice something odd about the sound of 'Aurora' when it starts. Eventually, you'll notice that the sound seems muffled because there's a lack of hi-hats and treble. However, this is a deliberate little ploy, because Carlo brings in the treble filled hi-hats soon after, and this added sound invigorates the track and makes it feel more alive as you move on into the progressing early stages of the tune. Carlo has stayed true to his trademark sounds - loads of reverb, grainy coarse synths and lively, robust, rolling basslines. The melodic element here is quite idle and relaxed - even though the bass and kicks are pounding away behind it, it seems to meander around the track in an idyllic and carefree manner. Another nice touch because it gives the track an epic feeling with a very wide and 'spacial' sense.
AA: Friday 'Friday' seems to be very closely related to 'Aurora'. More rolling bass and strong kicks create the main drive and the melodic elements come from coarse, grainy yet still trancey synths. The way this track differs though, is that it's focussed on something more techy. The percussion here is especially distinct - really chattering away, making a very defined and crisp percussive rhythm. Instead of flowing melody, the lead synth is sent in a hookline direction, repeating the same few notes over and over. A very simple concept, but because of the pretty booming bass, that crisp percussion and the repetitive, driving nature of the lead synth, the track has a lot of power and powerful tracks hold your interest. This is one of those tracks that has the almost perfect balance between tech and trance.
Conclusion:
A top notch EP from Mr. Resoort. Touch and driving tracks, each with their own special touch. 'Aurora' has the smooth, idyllic melody and 'Friday' has the tougher, techy edge.
