Mr. Sander van Doorn steps up to remix one of the club classics gone by known as 'Direct Dizko' by S.O. Project. 7 years on from its inception, has SvD worked his magic on this one too? Hah, of course he has, and HOW!! Read on...!
'Direct Dizko' came around in 1999, marking itself on the trance/techno map and being remembered for having one of the most unique, recognisable, cheeky and downright dirty main hooklines around. It's unmistakable.
Sander van Doorn, man of the moment, it seems as though each one of his productions or remixes just turns to gold. Over the past year we've seen his awesome hits like 'Punk'd' and 'Bling Bling' and we've seen his incredible remixes like The Police - S.O.S. and TDR - Squelch.
So, when I saw that Sander van Doorn was to release a remix of S.O. Project - Direct Dizko, I could barely contain myself. I couldn't begin to imagine what the track would be like under his amazing production influences...
:: S.O. Project - Direct Dizko (Sander van Doorn Remix) :: ? :: KONV001
A: Direct Dizko (Sander van Doorn Remix) This one sided slice of vinyl wonder oozes quality from the start; a muted beat is sharply filtered out into something deep and pounding, dark and powerful. Gritty sfx and percussive elements quickly take a rhythm, adding to the dark, moody and powerful atmosphere. The percussion is crisp and plays with vigour and purpose, and the beat is full-on strong, and backed by a thunderous, deep rumble. This is one hell of a build up, you can just feel everything building during the sections between the many small filtered breaks. There is a round of cymbals which add tension to a muted section just before one last spine tingling break, the track quietens down to almost a whisper and builds back in loudly. Then it happens. That lead hookline is let out. The 12 notes are played out, over and over, by a deep and gritty synth with a clean and crisp edge to the sound whilst the bass just rumbles away in the background. This isn't it though, the bass breaks and there's a 32 beat build which then properly lets rip and unleashes the total, utter and full on power of this awesome, awesome track. It's hard to describe. This is the moment all DJs yearn for. As soon as the hook blasts out and the bass thunders, crowds will simply erupt. Those familiar with the original will recognise it and love it, those who haven't will marvel at such a wicked tune. It's that simple. The remix is filled full of cool quirky little sfx and loads of spine tingling filter breaks done in Sander's very unique style. Another of SvD's many masterstrokes here is the slight key change of the bass for two notes every 8 beats as the riff plays. It's a tiny detail but it adds a world of power to the tune. It's this attention to detail that makes Sander the incredible producer he is.
This is a limited release, it should be out right about now, so get it if you even have half a chance, you can't afford to miss out on this piece of history in the making. This has to be one of my favourite tracks to date, It's that good. Tune of the Week? Month? Tune of the Year more like.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, there's nothing more to say than this release is amazing in every way. It's totally badass, it will rock any floor at any club. It is quite simply one of the best tracks I have ever had the pleasure to listen to. Incredible.
