Here is Istanbul native Dougkan Ires' debut EP, which is currently making the rounds with Danny Howells, Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair, & Hernan Cattaneo. How does it stack up? READ ON!!!!
“Growth” builds well with a tight percussion pattern interspersed by a nice Rhodes sounding piano melody. Some funky samples continue upbeat feel, especially when joined by a bright sounding flute and some thicker percussion. A distinctive guitar joins the jam accompanied by some well executed delay effects until the drums eventually break down into the Rhodes piano solo. A new melody emerges and carries the tune into the second phrase starting with some chunky drum hits on the downbeats. The guitar is layered again and builds well off the flute and piano. This phrase continues until a second break which brings some filtered percussion and a more pronounced bass line. The guitar continually innovates the rest of the phrase with some filter and chop effects until “Growth” strips down into its basic percussion.
“Mind Control” is a more peaktime club oriented track, a trait that is immediately evident in its use of trippy filtered vocals and main-room percussion. The track builds using a combination of synths and dense percussion. An acid line is soon mixed in and is used to build the first substantive phrase along with the filtered and delayed vocals. The break builds using the infectious acid line and some new vocal chops. When the punchy drums are mixed back in, additional elements are mixed back in until “Mind Control’ breaks down into its outro.
Conclusion:
“Growth” is a very funky peace that could perhaps do without the second phrase but is worthy of both a listen and a purchase. “Mind Control” retains a bouncy and danceable house groove all the way through, but is complimented nicely by the slick vocal chops and acid line. Overall…another solid EP from Morrison Recordings. With their previous Cates & dpL release (With N’ Without + Everfighters) hitting #1 in the breaks section at Beatport.com within 1 day, it is hard to say that this label is not worth looking out for. Morrison Recs is probably also worth look looking into for the latest and greatest in genre, tempo, and mind defying grooves. Pick this up at Beatport!!!
