 A: Mark Sherry & BK - Amino
The first track of this two track EP sees Mark Sherry working with one of the most well known names in hard dance - BK. This track is comprised mainly of two things. One, deep and driving beats, two, a fairly uplifting melodic element. Initially, the track gets underway emphasising those beats, setting a decent pace and throwing some nice little sfx and filters at you. The melodic element comes in durign the break. It isn't too trancey hands in the air style but it captures a kind of mysterious essence. This goes very well with the instrument that is used to play it - a distant, heavily reverbed synth. After the break, you are plunged back in with those dark and driving beats - the sound is almost tribal, but not quite. There is a nice touch of backing synths but you never get to hear both the driving and the melodic elements playing together. This is interesting as it gives 'Amino' a split personality, and I think this works in its favour.

B: Mark Sherry & Nick Sentience - Wildfire
The track that comes from working with Nick Sentience is notably more hard dance in style and flavour. Lets face it though - who can deny the influence of Nick Sentience? The beat is big and initially has a scary techno style off-beat reverb - lovely! This is soon taken over by a more standard rolling hard dance type of bassline. The rest of the first half of the track is a bit of a progressive build up, but it's when we hit the breakdown (surprise) that things start to get interesting. Through a breakbeat, a lead melody emerges, played out by a very well tuned and powerful sounding synth. It's a tease though, because when the track drops back in, the melody doesn't. Instead, you have to wait a few minutes before the melody begins to shine through. It's worth the wait though, because I think it's this really catchy, fast paced and flowing melody (well it's more like a hook really), backed by some nice long synths notes, that makes this track. It's all over a bit too soon though.

Conclusion:A good effort of an EP from Mark Sherry. With the help of BK and Nick Sentience it's near on impossible to go wrong with hard dance. 'Amino' is a dark and tough piece with a soft, melodic core, whilst 'Wildfire' is just that - wilder, hotter and much more hard dance in style. Check out the killer hook, it's just a shame it doesn't last for a few minutes more.
