Reset Records marks it's 20th release with a production from a new alias belonging to producer Thomas Bronzwaer, better known for his trancey Arizona moniker. Check out 'Circa'...
:: Avalon - Circa :: Reset Records :: RS020
A: Circa (Thomas Bronzwaer Main Mix) I was happy to see a new track from Thomas Bronzwaer after not so long ago reviewing one of his previous releases on Yakuza. The first impressions of the track are instantly pleasing - it is solid, not too hard and not too trancey either. A great rhythm is created by the perky percussion and the excellent little rhythmic riff that the bass plays. The bulk of this track is based around a slightly techy sound - not as in your face as say, Sander van Doorn's techy style and not too soft as to make it feel boring and progressive - one that carries some good momentum and that is filled with sfx and also open to some less energetic breaks. The final touches to this track come from the use of a melodic element. Introduced in the break, it plays over the main sections of the track in a very laid back, careful and demonstrative style. It doesn't try to be a big techy stabbing riff, or an euphoric uplifting hook, instead, it sits somewhere in the middle and hence makes a great addition to the track. With tracks like this coming from him, I look forward even more to future work under his own name, because I don't think Mr. Bronzwaer will be disappointing anyone!
AA: Circa (Thomas Bronzwaer Deep Mix) 'Deep' mixes of tunes seem to be all the rage these days, so here we find a Thomas Bronzwaer Deep Mix on the flipside of this record. This mix feels less pacey and a lot more laid back. You can sense the progressive undertones from very early on - the hypnotic bass, swooshing synth effects and peculiar sfx are all telltale signs. The is no 'lead' to this track - there are a variety of different elements. The quite noticeable bass, a repeating short and simple synth hook which repeats over and over ghostly and subtly in the background and there's also a small spoken vocal part which is heavily effected and used more as a synthy sfx. All these bits add up to something which is very atmospheric and something which feels very well and very confidently produced. The track's progression from start to finish works very well and makes a lot of sense as you listen to it and see and hear how it unfolds before you.
Conclusion:
More top stuff from Thomas Bronzwaer so it's another Class A release for Reset Records too! The deep mix may be a bit too progressive for some, but I think it will fare well for progressive DJs and also in the beginning of trancier sets. The main mix is big room stuff though and should cause some decent and hefty reactions.
