Hernan Cattaneo really demonstrates a diverse and unique style here. The track selection makes for two quite distinguishable CDs, ones that stand out equally, but both which seem to avoid any kind of rigid typification into specific genre slots. This is the Renaissance way though and it's one of the reasons why they keep on coming out with quality compilations. They pick quality DJs and allow them to select quality tunes to match their own individual styles. Anyway, CD1 is quite downtempo, about 126BPM. It is chunky and progressive, yet has an overall light hearted feeling which really rubs off - I'm sitting hear listening to it getting more and more relaxed as each moment and beat passes by. The mixing is of a painfully high standard and don't expect it to come in regular intervals either - the track lengths here vary all over the place from as little as 2 minutes up to nearly 10.
CD2 is funkier in style and sound, but it also uses tracks which all have a funky but yet kind of bizarre, tripped out essence to them. This, plus a slightly faster 128BPM, makes it a much different sound from CD1, which works to the album's advantage I think. Tracks to watch out for are tracks such as Trafik - Thought Line, Rocco Mundo & Onno - Je T'Aime, Way Out West - Wonka and the excellent Phonique - For The Time Being (quality, quality tune!) on CD1. CD2 highlights include Trisco - Fashionista, Markus Mehta & Stephan Riedel - Obsessions and Nick Muir - I Feel Real.
Conclusion:
A high quality, classy album in which Hernan Cattaneo takes you through an invigorating and relaxing journey through the sounds of progressive, chilled, house and twisted funk. Perfect for either easy listening or for those much needed soothing post-club sessions.
