UK trance talent Andy Bagguley steps up for his debut solo track which is also the first release on his brand new label - Instant Music. Check out this uplifting trancer with remixes from Marcos Euphonic, Aled Mann and Frase which has also been getting heavyweight support from the likes of Above & Beyond...
:: Andy Bagguley - Sian :: Instant Music :: IM001
1) Sian (Original Mix) This release is kicked off by Andy Bagguley's Original Mix of 'Sian'. It's quite a laid back little number with cool synths and smooth, gentle bassy undertones. It's one of those tracks that build slowly all the way up to the breakdown, relying on soft but growing synths of various kinds - small, gentle leads, quite and droning bassy synths and sumptuous pads which line the background. The breakdown is where you expect to, and do, see the introduction of the leading melody, which is a great trancey lead, isn't too in your face or over powering and just generally does a good job of working very well. There's a breakbeat section which chops things up and bit, providing an alternate form of energy before things go back to 4x4. The overall feel of this one is a feeling of overwhelming softness and smoothness. There are no harsh sounds, they all blend in together to create a dreamy scene of melodic trance.
2) Sian (Marcos Euphonic Remix) Marcos Euphonic steps in for the first remix. It weighs in at a hefty 8 1/2 minutes and gets off to a more energetic start that the original due to some more active abss and some nearly techy sounding synths which build a bit of pressure up with some rhythmic stabbing. The melodic hook used here is brought in fairly early but almost as a backing instrument which is later capitalised on during the long breakdown. The breakdown itself is a massive, trancey synthfest which is incredibly euphoric and uplifting. After the breakdown, the main sound comes from the chord changes behind the melody and also some beautiful string synths which soar above everything else and contrast wonderfully with the deep bassy synths which are used throughout the track to good effect. Speaking of contrasts, there is a really tough breakbeat passage which is followed by the track's 'outro' section which feel a lot tougher than the main body of the production. A strong track which will prove popular with many.
3) Sian (Aled Mann Pres. Solace Remix) Aled Mann provides a really laid back and chilled version of 'Sian' under his Solace alias. Easy going kicks and basic percussion provide the backing for the non-urgent feeling bass and the meandering little synth melodies which are used. The track feels very progressive but it is broken up by a quite long breakdown. There is plenty of time afterwards to focus on the main melodic elements of the idyllic synth patterns before things are slowly wrapped up. Great for a proggier set or beginning of a trance set, it'll do a top job of setting the mood.
4) Sian (Frase Remix) Frase provides a remix with a much much punchier kick and tighter, more fidgety percussion. There's a great energy build up as the track kicks off due to the active, rolling bassline and filtered climaxes. There's a light and dainty synth presence which, when coupled with some lush pads makes for a really uplifting and generally happy feeling. This goes on and evolves into full on synth leads, bathed in pads, basically creating a total trance soundscape. Again, there's some great use of filters, especially when applied to the lead synth when it brings in the main melody during the break - the sound of the instrument is slowly changed, creating some great dynamics and keeping your interest in the music the whole time. The build up is incredibly climactic and spine tingling and you'll be gagging for the track to drop when it finally does so. If you've not guessed it already, Frase has provided something comprehensively uplifting. The only thing you have to decide on is whether to stand and sway with your arms in the air, grinning like a maniac or dance all your energy away. Great tune!
Conclusion:
A fantastic initial release for Instant Music and also for Andy Bagguley seeing as it's his label AND it's his first solo effort. Top marks for the Marcos Euphonic Remix and especially the Frase Remix whilst Andy's original is more soothing trance and Aled Mann's remix is bordering on the laid back progressive sound.
