E-TCR are back with another quality contender for summer anthem status. Summer Sessions has returned with their follow up to last years awesome 'Blossom'. This one has been championed by Ferry Corsten already...
:: Summer Sessions - Slipstream :: E-TCR :: ETCRCD010
1) Slipstream (Original Mix Version I) The CD starts off with the first version of the Original Mix. It has a generally easy going vibe thanks a laid back bassline, but this is soon enhanced and made much deeper and active. At the same point, synths play out a stream of notes and all of this really picks up the mood and makes it clear you're in for some top notch trance action. The breakdown is brought on with an abrupt stop and a bassy hit - this sounds awesome by the way, it's not something I've heard in a track before so 10 out of 10 for originality and creativity there. The breakdown itself drives home the Ibithan summery vibe with some lovely acoustic guitar sounds. Things are fired off again by that great bassy crush and this is where the track comes into its own and fans of the first Summer Sessions track will realise that disappointment will not be involved. We hear a beautiful and trancey chord progression topped off with some great little rhythmic stabs of synth. After a few phrases, the acoustic guitar is allowed to join in and the full on beauty of this piece is revealed. Flowing energy and soaring emotions combine to make this one awesome track.
2) Slipstream (Original Mix Version II) The second version of the Original Mix is very similar to the first version, albeit for a few tweaks and slight differences. This one has an ambient intro, pushing the track length to over 9 minutes long. There is no crushing bassy hit to bring on the breakdown either, and this seems to act in a way as to take the energetic edge off of the early stages of the track. The breakdown is similarly ambient with the quality acoustic guitar making itself heard again. However when the track drops back in, the chord progression isn't fully there and instead the stabbing rhythmic synth notes are brought to the foreground. The acoustic guitar, unfortunately, doesn't return. This version gives out less energy than the first version, and instead seems to aim for a toned down, slightly more progressive approach.
3) Slipstream (Carl B Remix) Carl B gets his first remix off to a flying start with some energetic and driving bass, but quite toned down beats and percussion. Instead, synth pads rule with long, sustained progressions. Acoustic guitar melodies also makes several, ghostly appearances, which adds a lot to the track. After the breakdown, Carl B steps things up a level by using a rhythmic synth lead melody which flows really well along with the existing lush pads that are being used in the background. This remix is really quite dreamy, substituting flowing smoothness for driving energy.
4) Slipstream (Carl B Peak Mix) The second remix from Carl B gets off to a strong sounding start with a more robust, rolling bassline, bigger kicks and quite harsh synths, commanding things onward. These coarsely edged synths continue to direct the action throughout the breakdown and onwards out into the main sections of the rest of the track. They don't raise the energy much though, and at some points seem to overwhelm the track a little too much.
Conclusion:
More quality Summer Sessions tunage! Carl B puts in a really dreamy piece of trance but the Original Mix Version I steals the show with its high level of energy, uplifting synths, wicked chord progression and inspired use of that quality acoustic guitar. Fans of Summer Session's previous release will love it, those who haven't heard it - get both!
