John Digweed has taken the title of his global radioshow and put it to a mix series which we'll see twice a year on the highly regarded Renaissance label...

Carrying the torch now for Renaissance and their ever increasing list of quality releases, it's John Digweed, a name everyone will undoubtedly know, and he's putting forward his 'Transitions' compilation.
This CD overall is generally progressive house. However the journey that you're taken on undulates to and fro, one minute featuring smooth, progressive house and the next featuring twisted and electro sounding beats. For example the album starts with two tracks which sound almost bizarre, with electro leads and springy sfx. Come tracks three and four, and the sound has changed into smooth progressive with soft basses and eerie synths. And at the end we see one final mood change but this time it's into some pretty chilled out breakbeat tracks.
As you would expect from someone of John Digweed's skill and stature, and as the name of the album inherently implies itself, the mixing here is right on the mark. The main focus is on deliberate, long, slow and subtle transitions.
Conclusion:
On the whole, as far as house goes, this is another nice album from the Renaissance brand. The way the sound evolves back and forth throughout the album is masterfully done plus it is constrained well thus avoiding breaking out into too many genres which would've spoiled it
