Two years after the release of 'Duende', one of Holland's mightiest trance duo's returns with a brand new single release. Estuera aka Jonas Steur steps up for a dreamy uplifting remix, so let's find out what we're dealing with here...
Danjo & Rob are also known as Primer, a guise with which they have brought the public some very strong releases like 'Everlast' and 'The Silver Lining', as well as remixes for Fire & Ice and Jones & Stephenson. The portfolio of their main alias Danjo & Styles includes remixes for the likes of Tiësto and Signum, plus a bunch of highly respected tracks like 'Duende', 'Aragon' and 'Witness'. One of their most recent releases is a track called 'Blue Woods' which features on an EP together with DJ Governor's 'Red Woods'. 'What Lies Ahead' has been getting massive support from all the usual suspects...
A-side: Original Mix Right from the first part of the tune, you'll notice that this is a production by Danjo & Styles. Slick, smooth percussion, that trademark crunchy bassline and an immediate rapid feel are instantly creating that trancy vibe they are known for, accentuated by handsome synth chords playing delicate little melodies. Hints to an emotive lead are flowing in and out of the background continuously, just until the very classy breakdown initiates. It encompasses a deliciously elevating, laidback and above all slightly emotionally charged intermezzo, which soon after starts making friends with a really phat, trademark main riff to give things a very well worked out, super-elevating feel. This track definitely lifts you up! Danjo & Styles have once again made an outstanding trancer, filled to the max with good melodies and their superb overall sound. Rating: 8/10
B-side: Estuera Remix Man of the moment Jonas Steur gives us his interpretation on the flip of the disc. This is an instantly recognizable Steur track: his great use of warm, fuzzy percussion combined with sunny tribal rhythms start standing out immediately, making this a tune with a strong soul within a matter of seconds. Overall, this remix is a bit more chilly than the original, but somehow it does have the ability to inject a nice amount of drive and agility into the soundspectrum. A phasing lil' bassline does some great work, and combined with the not too present yet beautiful tiny bits of melody during the build this definitely makes you beg for more. I really like what Jonas did to the original's melody: it's still there, but he has wrapped it up in a delicious, mouthwatering synth which he is so well known for. This is the kind of trance that totally does it for me these days: hear this live and you'll start smiling immediately. A lovely remix which is a great addition to this release! Rating: 8,5/10
Conclusion:
Let's not be too extensive here; this is just a very nice release. The original is trademark Danjo & Styles power trance filled with great melo's, while the Estuera mix is totally diggable because of its beautiful bits of melody, sharp percussion and overall great feel. Another winner on High Contrast!
