The first release on Frankie’s NOICE!music, label which looks to push fresh house music into the public domain produced by the Chicago legend Frankie Knuckles. An update of a truly timeless classic The Whistle Song gets a facelift and a brand new production Gimmie Gimmie.
The Whistle Song
The original record must have been on every compilation of house classics released. I’m sure anybody with an interest of dance music will remember this legendary record by Frankie Knuckles. Here is the updated version released a little while ago and I’m sure you will be itching to check it out.
Get it kicking off with a deep classic house beat and feed in the ambiance that builds up to those very famous whistles. When the beat drops out a very tasty deep hook slips in adding to the continuous building in the track. There’s a relaxing soulful style to the tone and in comes that whistle which is one of the catchiest hooks on the house scene. As far as a remake its more or less the same record that went down very well the first time but touched up a bit and given a different feel. I would say Frankie has put out a good lesson on how to update an old house classic for today’s market, quite simply an excellent piece of house.
Gimmie Gimmie
Gimmie, a man after midnight? Most certainly not but what’s this record got to offer that will tempt you to play it after midnight. If you like Piano melodies and sounds in your house music then this is one worth taking a look at. The deep house beat is there in it’s usual form and a vocal helping of “shake, shake” shouts out before it cuts and snaps into a piano break and back with the beat and the vocals (Performed by Niki Richards) which suit the track. If one lot of Piano is not enough then more well worked piano action comes forward. The deep groove backing on this one is really well put it and I think almost a little funky. The main vocal lead in here slides in halfway through the track and when the piano riff breaks out on its own it’s a joy to hear. What we have here is soulful, deep piano house with enough changes in it to keep in interesting.
Conclusion:
Frankie Knuckles is a man who enjoys his house and I’m sure will continue to release and mix together records for many years to come. Here we have two fine examples of his talents and records house fans and DJ’s will most certainly find a pleasure to listen to. The Whistle Song has not changed much but it’s still got that hook in there to keep your whistling fetish more than occupied. Top quality house this.
