One of the recent releases on the highly regarded Intuition Recordings record label is this two tracker from Fable, a collaboration between Fabrice Ernst and Jonas Steur...
:: Fable - Above / Nightshift :: Intuition Recordings :: INTU904
A: Above 'Above' has a solid intro of beats and shimmering percussion, this is interrupted briefly by a calming Filterheads type break which sets the scene for the rest of the production. When the track kicks back in, you've got the same solid beats and percussion but they're now backed up by some delicate and subtle synthwork, some smooth and really soothing pads plus a high pitched, dancing, repeating little hookline which gives this track a really nice summery vibe and feel. There is a huge breakdown in the middle of the track which focuses primarily on the lovely summery chords and synths. There is an appearance by an acoustic sounding guitar which just adds even more to the taste of summer that this track provides. Eventually, a melody is introduced and blended in and really gets underway when the track drops back in. Again, the sound of the synth that plays this lead part has a light, trancey and most importantly, summeristic feel to it. This is an awesome sounding track which shows off the production skills of Steur and Ernst in a gloriously summery piece of trance.
AA: Nightshift 'Nightshift' also has a Filterheads feel to its sound. It has a different approach though. The beats have a march like feel to them and the chattering percussion has a tribal and carnival type sound. Deep basses and ghostly synth notes provide a dark, deep and intriguing atmosphere. After the long and ambient break (mmm lovely delicious synth pads) the track seems to gain a bit more energy. There is a continuous sense of rising energy coming from the rising bass notes and there are some great crush sfx thrown in to spice the sound up. A wickedly atmospheric track.
Conclusion:
Top quality again from Intuition, and you wouldn't expect any less where Jonas Steur is involved. 'Above' is dreamy, trancey and summery whilst 'Nightshift' has a darker sound and meaner, more driving undertones. Both are dancefloor winners.
