Eddie Halliwell continues to dominate the dance music world with this latest installment of club music under the Cream brand. Known widely for his mixing ability and showmanship behind the decks, Eddie is now capturing some of his intensity on two CDs which are focused on what the man himself will be doing over 5 dates this summer at the awesome and renowned club Amnesia, on the White Isle of Ibiza.
Just take a look at that tracklisting. For starters the first CD, which is styled towards the current hype surrounding the growing Electro sound at the moment, is packed with 24 tracks. 10 of these tracks are actually edits put together, and remixed live in some cases, by Halliwell himself so the DJ customisation goes way beyond the normal mixing from track to track. A lot of the new edits are (so it would seem by name) performed by a Pioneer EFX effects unit - a powerful tool to say the least and one which is becoming more and more popular as time passes. The chunky and funky nature of these hot Electro picks allows for snappy, tight mixing. It gets crazy at some points - many of the tracks in the latter stages of CD1 barely last for more than 2 minutes, the shortest of which actually weighs in at a mere 28 seconds. Halliwell is a busy one behind the decks for sure.
Some of the best picks on CD1 are probably The Egg - Walking Away, Freeform Five - No More Conversations and String Theory - Pieces of My Mind.
CD2 ses a switch in style to main room Trance. We only see one Halliwell rework in this CD, and a much more reduced tracklist, as is due to the nature of trance and the way that it is structured. The music here starts off quite soft and trancey, with tracks by O'Callaghan, Greg Downey and Thomas Datt. Things soon toughen up though and get more techy, as you'd expect from a DJ like Eddie Halliwell. Lots of big room energy here due to a prime cut of tracks and tight, snappy mixing.
Highlights from CD2 include quality pieces such as O'Callaghan & Kearney - Exactly, Mark Norman - Touch Down, Deep Voices - Imagenetic and Marcel Woods - Cherry Blossom.
Conclusion:
A high quality album mixed by a high quality DJ. There's a huge variation of music to be heard here, from the Electro and Techno sounds of CD1 to the Trancey, techy and tough sounds of CD2. This is out now, so don't miss it!
