From the ever mysterious WL imprint which will always keep you guessing is a one-sided slice of vinyl from Randy Katana...
:: R.K. - Plastic Fantastic :: WL :: WL045
A: Plastic Fantastic As with many of his recent productions, 'Plastic Fantastic' has a massive tribal influenced style. I'd say even more so than other Katana productions before it. Throughout it, it features a fast and jittery snare pattern which, tribal essence aside, puts in an also military sounding rhythm. Add some big fat beats to allow it to stop along and the result is something very simple but still very driving. The final touch to this tune is the addition of a cool little sample. It's a small riff played by a lone saxophone, which repeats over and over. It has a lonely atmosphere to it, which makes the track feel 'bigger', as if it takes up more space. There's also a cool and funky contrast between the tight tribal beats and rhythms and the cool, laid back approach of the saxophone. The saxophone is reintroduced in a sea of reverb duing the ambient breakdown and comes back in full strength right after when the track drops back in. Dancefloor wise, it will definitely work, but only on the right floors. I can definitely see this working awesomely at a big event - say Global Gathering for example. It certainly has a festival type feel to the sound, and that would surely be the track's perfect environment, for maximum dancefloor potential.
Conclusion:
Quite a unique track from Katana this time. Whatever way you look at it, tribal is the name of the game in this production. There's no denying how catchy that cool little saxophone riff is though, and the thought of hearing this track in the perfect atmosphere of a massive dance festival brings on a most anticipating feeling.
