Fifty-two tracks over three CDs spanning four of the biggest genres out there. Just the right thing to get you in the mood for Global!
The 28th-29th July 2006 will see Long Marston Airfield near Stratford Upon Avon come alive with dance music as the biggest names dish out the best tracks. Expect to see Paul van Dyk, Tiesto, Deep Dish, Eric Morillo, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Jeff Mills, The Audio Bullys, Pendulum, Armin van Buuren and loads more at what may be the event of 2006.
Anyway, before all of that excitement, you have the album to whet your appetite. CD1 is entitled 'House' and covers a range of truly upbeat and housey tunes. Some older classics make an appearance here too, along with many more new tracks to groove to. Quite a steady flow is kept throughout, but things seem to get a bit more lively towards the end, with niceness like Lifelike & Kris Menace - Discopolis and the CD is finished off beautifully with Andy Cato - La Luna.
CD2 covers the trance and tech elements of the dance music spectrum. Naturally, the flow starts soft and trancey, and progresses through the CD getting stronger and techier. Things are kicked off by the soft tones of Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms (this is making me really want to be at Global right now!) and then bobs and weaves through a mixture of trancey tracks and other, more house oriented tracks: Fonzerelli - Moonlight Party and Oakenfold Feat. Britanny Murphy - Faster Kill Pussycat, for example. Things get a bit techier next as tracks remixed by Sander van Doorn and Marcel Woods are mixed in. This CD snakes around even more, switching from tech to trance smoothly and with ease, saving the best for last, with tracks such as Super8 + P.O.S. Pres. Aalto - 5 and Sander van Doorn's storming remix of club classic 'Direct Dizko' (regular readers will know just how much of an *absolute* TUNE I think this is!!). For me, this CD is Global Gathering in a nutshell. Mind you, it could have done with being played a little bit faster perhaps.
CD3 goes electric, as is the current trend in the funky and house scenes. It starts out quite soft and really easy going, but come around about track 5, those punchy beats and enormous sawtooth synths and basses come out and start to groove away. Some of the most obvious tracks are mixed in: The Egg - Walking Away, for example, and you see re-occurrences of rising star electro names such as Tiga and Tocadisco in the funky tracklist.
Conclusion:
It's hard to fit a two day festival into just three CDs, but it's been done pretty well here. The big eclectic tracklistings do the job and they contain some monsters and huge summer anthems. If you can't make it to Global this year, then at least get a taste for it off this album.
