Steve Porter meets Groovecreator here to deliver a Tech House monster of a track with a very typical Detroit sound. Support on this one coming from Carl Cox, Max Graham, Chris Fortier, Paul van Dyk etc.
The tracklist! - A. Steve Porter Meets Groovecreator - 1990 (Original Mix) B. Steve Porter Meets Groovecreator - 1990 (Filterheadz Remix)
A. Steve Porter Meets Groovecreator - 1990 (Original Mix)
"1990," as cleverly titled as it is, takes us back to a very typical Chicago / Detroit sound - but with a very modern Steve Porter / Groovecreator twist. It starts as it means to go on, commencing with a hard bassline, and a very familiar Steve Porter kick. All the more while, we are quickly acquainted with some simple and almost 'acid like' stabs. The unique drum pattern quickly takes us to a short breakdown where a remarkably simple piano hook is introduced, and as the track 'kicks in,' integrates very nicely with the bassline. With it's sudden changes of pace, and overall hard-hitting sound, this is one enjoyable monster of a tune with relentless energy. An all round well-produced and professional sounding piece of music here, from two very talented producers.
The reaction to this one on the dance floor I assure you is massive!
B. Steve Porter Meets Groovecreator - 1990 (Filterheadz Remix)
Filterheadz offer their take on this track here with a slightly more dark and tribal feel to it - a sound typical of them, basically. It follows a very similar pattern to the original in terms of structure, but offers other interesting elements like some crisp sounding claps, and some unusual almost 'electro' synths. The bassline is very heavy as it kicks in, and the overall groove and flow of the break is much more progressive than the original. As the track comes around to 'break' for a second time we are greeted with some more unusual synths, and just the right amount of minimal clicks and beeps to take this 90's resembling piece of music into modern times. A bit of a simple rework here from the two brothers, but an effective one as they manage to capture a much darker mood.
Conclusion:
An overall good release here, with the Original packing more of a punch, whilst the Filterheadz Remix offers some heavy and darker sounds with a more progressive flow.
