The Woodsman has been revamping two of his biggest hits to date. 'Cherry Blossom' comes in its much wanted Trance Energy 2006 Mix, while 'Advanced' has been reinterpreted to become a crunchy, even techier affair than it already was. Both are reviewed right here...

Both tunes that receive a remix on this release have had their share of success already. Every jock played 'Advanced', which was also the official Trance Energy 2006 Anthem. 'Cherry Blossom' hit the shelves around May last year, becoming quite the success with it's spinetingling lead. Let's check out the new mixes.
A-side: Advanced (Bits & Crushed Mix)
Actually, this isn't a brand new mix looking at when it was produced. Woods has been spinning this version in his sets since late 2004, but it somehow never got a release it seems. Until now! Remember 'Static State' and 'Time's Running Out'? Both these tunes came in a very distinct style, filled with the filthiest bassy notes, thick and raw soundscapes and above all, a very distinct structure. That's exactly what we're being treated with in this mix. Dark, choppy interludes of massive bass are being injected from start to end, fueled onwards by using sets of wickedly crafted SFX, crisp bits of percussion and a bunch of subtle vocal stabs every now and then. While Woods' earlier mixes of this tune were relatively 'straightforward' (so to speak), this one has a lot more coming with it. In a way, it sounds more intelligent than the others. The main melody we all know by now still has the anthemic feel coming with it, but combined with the insaturable basslines and the overall cool structure of the track, it gets a whole new dimension. Quite the nice remix!

B-side: Cherry Blossom (TE 2006 Mix)
This version of 'Cherry Blossom' was made exclusively for Marcel's Trance Energy 2006 DJ-set. It seems a bit slower and deeper than the original, but it still has the ability to create a rather nice driving effect. The emphasis during the build has been put on some very coarse sounding bits of synth, a chunky, deep bassline and the slowly burbling, yet well working percs. In a way though, the whole thing becomes too repetitive after a while. Luckily, Marcel did an outstanding job in creating the breakdown; calm, peaceful strings do their work flawlessly here, then for that massive lead riff to show itself in its fullest form. From here on, the tune's feel changes drastically. In a matter of seconds, it becomes a full-flown beast of a track, stuffed with a super-mean bassline that really pounds its way through everything without a single hint of regret. The first half of this mix is so-so, but when it gets up to speed during the climax it becomes something truly banging.

Conclusion:The Bits & Crushed mix of 'Advanced' gives the tune a completely new feel, and that's what remixes are for, aren't they? 'Cherry Blossom' its revamp is in its best form from the breakdown onwards, with the build being nothing too special.
If you liked any of the originals, do give these remixes a listen.
