The latest record from Marcos is here! Out now on Metropolis records on that good old plastic gold that is vinyl. Read on for the juice on this one.
A1: Original Mix B1: Marcos Re Edit
Marcos is one of those produces who puts a sound in the records that you can always say to yourself when listening, that must be a new Marcos track. Here we have his brand new offering to the dance scene India Calling. Two mixes by Marcos as is the trend with his releases, I can not really recall any other producer remixing his tracks to be honest (If you don’t count Marc van Linden of course). That’s not really a bad thing because he is a very talented and consistent producer. The man behind Just For A Day and Around In Circles which were supported by some of the biggest names in Trance.
Let’s get stuck into the original mix on this two sided EP. The track gets started with a soft dubbed out beat and synth effected sounds which echo out into the background. A short sequence of that and in comes, with a good thump, the main beat. It’s a really good deep thud the beat to this one, hard and aggressive. Harmonising vocals, if you can say they are vocals as they don’t really say anything. Slide into the track with the beat cut off. It’s more just a soothing female sound with a deep bass riff dominating the foreground until the beat comes banging back into the track again. The background bass riff forms what I think is a very good hook to the track. Extra little snares sneak in and out to add to the riff. The deep beat in the background really does give the track an enjoyable edge to it. The main break cuts in. The beat stops with the deep bass riff remaining, a simple building electronic melody feeding in. The vocals are still there along with some very nice percussion that adds atmosphere. The beat cuts back in and the deep bass riff does its job in creating a fine banging piece of good music, excellent tough aggressive stuff from Marcos this.
Now we have the Edit. It’s not so much an edit of the original but it takes a few features from it and surrounds in the style and sound you would expect from a Marcos track. This one is more uplifting rather than an aggressive banging monster. The beat is softer but typical Marcos. You can feel the track building up early with a funky riff feeding in early in the track. The vocal female sample stutters in and the electronic sounds Marcos used scamper in and out. The build leads into a very well crafted uplifting melody which creeps into the track and disappears before it reaches its peak. Just when you think he’s forgot to finish it off the melody builds with the chord changes in it complimenting the backing sounds. Here is another good melody with your typical Marcos sounds building it up.
Conclusion:
I always seem to enjoy Marcos records. The edit on this release is what I would expect from his style and previous releases. The original mix is a very aggressive and hard slamming piece of Trance which I would give the nod over the edit for being the stronger of either on this release. Marcos fans can be very pleased with this new record as its very good. Go get it.
