Hungary's Zack Marullo turns in this 2 track progressive house/trance EP on Morrison Recordings. How does it stand up to the standard of the modern progressive DJ market? Read on for the answer!
“Snowin” begins with a bouncy and energetic 4/4 drum beat that uses a combination of layered percussion and a faint but distinct bassline to advance track into the first break around the 1:30 mark. Once the beat drops back in, the synth line and percussion have developed a little more, moving the track along to the second break. At this point, an echoed, errie melody is the centerpiece of the track, complimented nicely by the bassline and percussion. The melody plays out until the outro of the track, which is about two minutes long.
“Winter Games” is a more progressive track that is tightly arranged with less instruments but retains the almost jazzy feel of “Snowin”. This track relies on a familiar melody and tons of percussion to move along until the first break. After this break, the 4/4 drum pattern kicks back in but only for about a minute or so until the 2nd break comes in which is almost identical to the first. After this break, the outro begins.
Conclusion:
“Snowin” and “Winter Games” are fairly generic pieces of progressive house/trance that should appeal to the Markus Schulz/Armin Van Buuren progressive fans. Both of these tracks are about 9 minutes long, which is a probably more than is warranted considering the limited musical content, but this problem can easily be solved with a simple edit. Give a listen, and if you like what you hear, then by all means pick these up!
