Here’s the latest record coming up on SAW Recordings. Jim Rivers provides two very fine electro touched progressive house records from the label that brought you Satoshi Tomiie’s Glow
A: Future B: Restore
Jim Rivers is one of the new talents signed by SAW this year. Having been gathering feedback from local DJ’s and producers Jim sought after creating his own unique sound and these two tracks are the results of his work. Signed by SAW Recordings early this year and featured on Satoshi Tommie’s Renaissance 3D mix its proof that Jim certainly has a good ear for creating and producing his own music.
Let’s get stuck into the tracks and see what the buzz on them is. The Future would what I’d say is a deep groovy electro touched affair which gets started with a simple tough but edgy beat and a simple groove to get things going. Its not long before a tasty hook slides into the record with a change of note as the beat cuts back. The beat comes back with a slightly different edge to it and a even deeper bass Patten in the background. On first listen of this I must admit it did not strike me as being anything to outstanding but give it a deeper inspection and a bit more volume and you can feel the layers put into the record. For what I would say is a main break there is deeply edge backing grooves slowly building in tempo and changing sound leading back into the beat. The electro style elements and chord changes keep this progressive record a nice sound. Good punchy house this with a nice rolling groove to it.
It’s fair to say that this would be my personal favourite out of the two. Restore is the name of the second track in this release for Jim. It’s a different sound but still on the electro styled theme Future created. Start it off with a simple beat a sandy sounding kick and layer up a nice poppy pattern to float with in. Introduce a deep rolling bass groove that changes chord and slide on a little bit of tingling percussion. This records building to something. All those sounds cut back and from the distances come an atmospheric build that’s gives depth and dare I say a little emotion. The beat bangs back in and the elements all feed back in but slowly gathering in volume. When the beat cuts off again the atmospheric build from the distance jingles in and out of the foreground allowing the other elements of the track to feed in. The deep bass groove Jim’s created here rolls like light thunder from the speaker and how it’s all put together works really well. I'ts progressive with an even uplifting energy to it. There is a good vibe about this record.
Conclusion:
Out of the two records on this one I would sway my opinion that Restore is the stronger of the two. Two varied records with electro elements but a different sound to each. Future has a dark vibe about it with its breaks and buildson it's style of sound. Restore has a good energy and feel about it. The progressive melody is bright and energetic and would make a real impact on a big sound system. With this being Jims first release on SAW and what I gather his first signed productions it’s an excellent start which I’m sure will see the progressive house jocks gather interest in these records. The digital release are out right now with a full vinyl release to come in September.
