Andy Moor's new trance label, AVA Recordings' debut track is a debut solo effort by Joonas Hahmo, better known as one of the two halves of ALT-F4...
:: Joonas Hahmo - The Fusion :: AVA Recordings :: AVA001
1) The Fusion (Original Mix) There have been big promises from AVA over the past few weeks about the quality of their upcoming music, described by the label itself as "...'classy' electronic dance music...". So then, expectations have already been built up and up.
'The Fusion' seems like a curious blend of melodic trance and slightly progressive trance. It is moderately paced with strong, thick beats which carry plenty of weight and which are complimented by a sumptuous helping off bass. The melodic lines are held by typically 'ALT-F4 style' 'bleepy' leads, smooth trancey pads and a lovely crystalline synth which puts out sets of atmospheric backing chords. In the more minimal sections, there is a rather groovy acidline which fills any void, providing some nice variation at the same time. The rest of the track sees rises and falls of combinations of the 3 leading elements. Quite apt as this Fusion of elements certainly helps 'The Fusion' to live up to it's name. Classy quality electronic dance music? Looks like Ava have hit the bullseye from the very start with this fine first release.
2) The Fusion (Hawk Remix) Progressive artist Hawk steps up for the remix here. Having produced music under his real name, Håkon Lofthus, for Enhanced Progressive and also Anjunabeats' progressive sub-label, Anjunabeats, under this Hawk guise, we have a good indication as what to expect. Hawk has capitalized on the bass and vamped it up a bit, hitting those really deep and atmospheric notes very well. Well placed swishes and wooshing sfx along with booming bass rushes enhance the atmosphere even more. The 'bleep' lead is still there, just made to sound more distant and eerie with a tonne of echo. It's backed up by much more ambient than before backing chords. Overall, the effect created is one which is soft, deep and relaxing, all the way to it's core.
Conclusion:
A great starter release for AVA Recordings, showcasing very nicely what we should expect from future releases. This package provides two good flavours - quality melodic and deep, progressive trance. Check it out.
