The tenth release from mike Shiver's trance label, Captured Music, comes courtesy of the talented Swedish producer, Matias Lehtola. Originally a two track release with vocals by Gina J and a remix by Funabashi, here are the two Dub mixes which are available digitally, from Captured...
Hailing from Githenburg in Sweden, Matias Lehtola began producing music at the age of 16 with no prior experience and has since gone on to work with major labels such as Universal, AATW and Sony BMG. More recently, he has topped charts when working alongside Maor Levi as Angelstyle with a release on the UK based Elevation Records.
:: Metias Lehtola - Burning Bright (Dub Mixes) :: Captured Music :: CAPTURED010
1) Burning Bright (Dub Mix) 'Burning Bright' spends it's initial sections developing a full-bodied bassy presence and a decent pace which feels comfortably quick, whilst not actually being as fast as it feels. Small tinkles of synth add to this progression until a piano begins to play some gentle notes up to the calm, ambient breakdown. The ambience here is great, featuring a quality blend of smooth and sweet pads. These give way to an awesome classic piano melody. Driven by emphasised chords and higher, flowing melodies. This in turn gives way to a more trancey rendition of the complex melodies, backed once again by those sweeter than sweet pads. The piano comes back in to send shivers down the spine as a euphoric build takes you into the the sky and lets the full force of the track flow out. The combination of the synth lead, the soaring pads and the sublime piano melodies create one of the most gently uplifting and beautiful tracks I've heard in a long time. Highly euphoric and uplifting, it reaches this state with ease without even a hint of being too overpowerful. Masterful trance music.
2) Burning Bright (Funabashi Dub Mix) The Funabashi Dub Mix takes what is the essential idea of the Original but just adds the mask of a different, deeper style. The track is slower with chunkier bass and really deep, ambient (and almost dark) undertones. A deep bassy synth drives this version of the production and as things move along, ghostly pads can be heard almost glistening in the background. The piano features heavily again, in a slower, more laid back form, but all the classical goodness is retained, especially in the breakdown. There are also some vocal "Aahhs" used as well, but no full vocals from the vocal mixes. The climax too is an amalgamation of elements - the deep, soulful bass plus the super-ambient trancey pads with an added shrill synth to lead things. When the piano is added into this picturesque and dreamy soundscape, you have a proper piece of progressive, chillout trance. Possibly hard to fit into a lot of sets due to it's mellow nature, it doesn't stop this track from sounding superb.
Conclusion:
Great tunage from Matias Lehtola. The vocal versions of these tracks are the same, but basically have some lyrics sung during the breakdown. The melodic Dub mixes were much more appealing to me though. And appeal to me they did - the Original is so beautiful and melodic and it features some really inspiring piano work. Funabashi's interpretation is incredibly deep but powerful too, retaining the same kind of melodic power after the breakdown, just in a very different style.
