Jason Jollins' latest track is a deep, hypnotic piece which is coming at you on his own record label, Acute Recordings...
:: Jason Jollins - Rosario Sun :: Acute Recordings
1) Rosario Sun 'Rosario Sun' is a long, deep, hypnotic and progressive monster. It doesn't rush anything. Instead, when it develops a sound, it lets you listen and absorb every last bit of each section - all the notes, instruments and subtle progressions. It takes about a minute and a half for the tune to move on from the introductory beats. From here, gentle, humming bass accompanies sweet and delicate synths which pulse on each beat, inducing a feel of trancey hypnosis. The percussion is minimal and the beats aren't overpowering. In fact, the tune as a whole has a light and delicate overall sensation surrounding it. This continues on for a while, letting you take in the chord progression and embedded melodies before moving into a break after about 4 minutes into the track. This pretty ambient section is used to introduce a new synth with a deeper sound which plays an idyllic melody above everything that you heard before the break, plus a few little added tweaks and sfx which dance around the synths, enhancing the sound that little bit more, which is what you need after a breakdown. You could say that this track ends after about 8 minutes, whilst it is actually over 9 minutes long. The reason for this is a huge section of dry beats at the end, making it almost too DJ friendly. For progressive music like this, though, this is probably a godsend because of the potentially long, gentle and smooth transitions you might expect from such a genre.
Conclusion:
A quality track. Progressive isn't my main preference of style, but there's something about this delicate, light and hypnotic sound which really appeals to me. Check this one out.
