The duo responsible for 'Mute Your Mind' returns on Ferry Corsten's label to hit us back with two brand new tracks. They teamed up for the A-side to go on in the style we know them for now, while the flip contains a rougher tune made by Frost alone...
'Mute Your Mind' was the third release on Ferry's now almost one year young label. Filled with cool guitar riffs and a very distinct sound, it became quite the winner tune gaining plays from the likes of Paul van Dyk, Armin and Tiësto.
A-side: Frost & Maron - 'Time Out' Directly from the first beats, it is evident that this one's going to go in a bit of the same direction as their previous single. A phat, coarse bassline rumbles out deep bassguitar-like notes, enhancing the overall sound greatly by inducing a very sturdy, powerful vibe to be created, which also comes forward through the use of lots of tasty electro-ish SFX. Of course, Frost & Maron wouldn't be Frost & Maron without some wicked acoustic parts. This time around, we're treated with a smooth, delicate lil' piano oozing out a classy melody at first sight, which soon makes place for a very quiet, delicious guitar interlude ala 'Mute Your Mind'. Raw, stabbing hints of synth bring about a nicely eclectic sensation here, contrasting greatly with all the other building blocks of the track. A thing to note is, by the way, that the guitar riff constantly reshapes as the tune progresses. This is really well done as it amplifies the well worked out acoustic part of the production even more. A very elegant tune! Rating: 8/10
B-side: Rafaël Frost - 'Out Of Time' As you might have noticed, this one is the result of mister Frost on a solo tour. The overall sound that we get to experience here is noticably 'louder' compared with its A-side companion, executing a very driving, rapid feel with its rolling b-line, thumping percussion and swift snippets of tech-influenced synth. Compared with 'Time Out', this is more of a straightforward dance-floor oriented production. Its main theme encompasses a chunky, harsh stabbing riff, playing just a few notes but working out quite nicely combined with the speedy other parts. It culminates into badass techy mania a few times, making this a track your crowd will definitely enjoy. Rating: 7,5/10
Conclusion:
Both tunes on this disc are quality. 'Time Out' is a more than worthy follow-up to their earlier single, mainly caused by them very neat guitar riffs and very delicate overall sound. 'Out Of Time' is a bit more typical in sound, but definitely has the potential to rock some floors the coming time. Next release on Flashover is an EP by Breakfast, reviewed soon here on i:Vibes as well.
