Liquid's ever expanding catalogue of releases is extended even further now with a new release from Activa featuring a remix from tech heavyweight Mac Zimms...
:: Activa - Airflow :: Liquid Recordings :: LQ064
A: Airflow (Original Mix) 'Airflow' kicks off as any smooth trancer would. Solid beats, gentle percussion, a mildy energetic active bassline and hints of melody seeping through from introductory synths and soothing string pads playing long, sweeping notes in the background. As these initial section progress, the chord changes which are brought in are deep and emotional, which feeds on into the impending breakdown very well. Here, more of the track is allowed to emerge and we hear more from those beautiful synths pads, we hear a piano add its input into the melodic progression which is a wonderful touch and we also hear some deep and reverberating bass notes rumble below in the depths of the production. From within this melodic interlude, the lead synth gains new power and a more full bodied sound, making its return when the track drops back in much more powerful. This gives the production that little extra bit of drive that it needs and allows it flow, melodically and gracefully, out towards its closing section.
AA: Airflow (Mac Zimms Remix) Mac Zimms provides exactly what you'd expect from one of his remixes: big beats, tribally influenced percussion and a style which just secretes the sheer essence of the tech sound. A persistent bass synth which drones in the background creates a sense of anticipation and the use of a screeching climactic synth/effect creates even more tension and the sensation of impending release. The breakdown almost switches into Original Mix mode as the trancey essences gush in and we hear the synths from the original put out their melodic lines. This is soon overtaken by that seriously distinct screeching build which holds the tension to a point beyond sheer insanity and then releases into a surge of techy beats and rhythms. A rock solid tune with build ups that are sure to provide ample fuel to willing dancefloors.

Conclusion:
A very comprehensive release for Liquid here. Activa has produced a fine piece of trance which, although doesn't break any boundaries, is still very good at being what it is. Mac Zimms has provided more of his trademark sound to provide a flipside remix of a starkly differing, but top notch, flavour.
