Audiofly are about to let rip with an album jammed packed with quality tech house and take you on a wild journey through sound with their brand new mix compilation Undulation 2.
SAW Recordings have been very much on fire with their releases of late and that’s set to continue with this album from Audiofly. Who are they? I’ll fill you in if you don’t know.
Audiofly are UK born and bread Anthony Middleton and Italian Luca Saporito. The pair first met in London and in 2002 they decided to put both their creative juices into a project called Audofly. With both of them having a similar taste in style of music they have mixed and remixed a good share of successful records for some very big labels. They are very well known in the house scene with the likes of Nic Fanciulli and Danny Tenaglia being very fond of their work. I have been told that their live shows really are something to be seen with their creative mixing and impulsive track selections.
This album aims to put what they do for live shows into and 80 minute audio feast to enjoy are your own leisure. Without further ado here’s what’s on it:
1. Sebastian Roya - Compression 2. Martin Buttrich - Well Done 3. Kaliber 4 - A1 4. Audiofly X - Get Lost 5. A Vivanco - Maison Doiree 6. Microdinamic - Thunder 7. Layo & Bushwacka! - Less Is More 8. Audiofly X - Cold Light Of Day 9. X-Press 2 Feat Rob Harvey - Kill 100 (Radio Slave Mix) 10. Stan Lebowsky - Reduce 02 11. Stefan Bodzin - Cucuma 12. Sleeper Thief - Freefall 13. Rekleiner - Real Time
I’m sure many people would take a quick listen to this album and turn it off but those who do are missing out of some real quality stuff. The style on this album is a nice mixture of blippy electro sounds and techy house beats. To my surprise the album kicks off with a record by Sabastian Roya which blends together an irresistibly skippy beat and drops of sound that echo in and out of the track. I remember hearing this in a live set sometime ago but never found out what track it was. That search is now over.
It would be unfair to rate an album on its individual tracks, that’s not what decent compilations are about. Hidden within this album are some real varied pattens and sound styles. It does get a little minimal in places but always seems to break into a driving program of beats and sounds that tickle the senses something rotten.
What kind of beats can you expect to find lurking in this mix? The rolling bass and sqeacky blippy melody of Martin Buttrich’s ‘Well Done’ to the soulful vocal progressively minded X-Press 2’s Kill 100 there is a good mixture of tech house sounds in this mix to grab your attention. I may even say it gets a little funky in places with its beat and deep smooth grooves compliment with throbbing bass changes.
The mixing of this album is nothing short of superb. Each track is very cleverly crafted into the next without disrupting the flow of music. The layering where one record begins to drop off and another begins to start is very well programmed. One beat slides out allowing another to introduce itself and take you into a new style of sound. Echo’s and drums in the background with sounds dripping in and out with tracks like Rekleiner’s Real Time create a very atmospheric mix. No track seems out of place even with two that incorporate varied patterns and pitch of sound the mixing between them is spot on.
There’s always a danger with mix compilations to undercut tracks and not showcase and mix them in the way they should have been. Audiofly, who I would say prefer to showcase their talents in front of a live audience as the style they bring to the table 80 minutes is a short time to slide it all in, have crafted together an excellent album here. It’s a fine example of the style they would like to be known for and push forward within the different styles of dance music out there.
Conclusion:
I can say this is the first mix I have ever heard from these guys but it certainly impressed me with its finely crafted mixing and excellent selection of progressive techy edge laid back house. It’s a mix to sit back and have a moment to yourself to. I’m sure people who have had the pleasure of Audiofly live will find this mix an essential part of their CD collection. Good work from Audiofly.
The album will be released on SAW Recordings at the end of October.
