The third release on Selective's progressively oriented offshoot is a production by Matthias Baumann and Roland Geringer. Included are the original and interesting mixes by Sassot and Funabashi...
This is actually the second single of the Cressida guys, following up to the 2005 released 'Certainty / Carillon'. Besides that, they have also done numerous quality remixes for the likes of Mirco de Govia, Volition, Paski and loads more. Baumann and Geringer are also known under their Callisto guise, with which they release somewhat harder, more energetic trance on the Skywarp label.
A-side: Original Intro Mix As this has been titled an intro mix, it righteously starts off with quite the beautiful chilled out part filled with strong, emotive strings playing some seriously good melodies. Soon enough though, the tune kicks off in its fullest form by blasting out a coarse, groovy sounding bassline which really gives the tune a nicely contrasting feel. Tingling, floating chords are subtly covering the overall scenery, granting the build a smooth ride towards the breakdown. The delicate strings from the intro return in their fullest form here, but the coolest thing that's available here is that superbly effective riff that they bring in near the end. It's simple as hell, yet works out like a charm with its adorable, funky chords and that raw bassline going along with it all the time. This is one of them tunes which totally shifts from your expectations but does so in quite the positive way. Nice work!
B1: Sassot Remix Miguel Sassot turns in a faster, more trancy mix rammed with drive, pounding percussion and some really swift use of melody. He's included that cool lil' riff from the original in quite the neat way, bringing it in subtly during numerous intermezzo's, then for the tune to roll onwards again to create a fair bit of agility on top of everything. Parts from the original's strings are doing fine work during the breakdown, but the most important thing to mention here is that Sassot brings in a smooth, tapping melody right before the climax. The climatic parts of the tune don't include that much melody, but do generate a certain amount of power with them strong percs. Bits and pieces of the original's riff appear here and there, making this a remix which doesn't sound too much like the original but is a nice patch on it anyway.
B2: Funabashi Remix Tom Porcell and his production partner Kevin Sieja have been on fire lately with their Funabashi alias. They have done lots of succesful remixes which are being played by the biggest trance jocks and have recently also released their first single 'Moments' together with Hammer (from Hiver and Hammer). Their mix for 'Slightly Agravic' has become a rather deep yet pounding affair. A typical pushing, very present bassline rumbles through everything without remorse, led on by good amounts of leading melody. The bassline releases a subtle dark feel, giving this mix a rather mysterious but above all deep character. This time around, the full melo from the original returns, blending greatly with the pounding percussion and that wicked sounding bassline. A really good effort!
Conclusion:
I like how this package brings three totally different mixes. The original is proggy yet has an electrifying glow hanging over it with its cool bassline and wicked riff. Sassot's remix is driving and trancy, while Funabashi took on a deeper approach with their darker, yet banging remix. A nice release!
