More action from Re:Locate and his 'Rogue' album, this time seeing collaborations with Midor and Menno de Jong. Having nearly overlooked this gem, I needed to give it a mention...
:: Re:Locate - Alcatraz / Spirit :: Galactive :: GALSO015
A: Re:Locate Feat. Midor - Alcatraz 'Alcatraz' starts with a deceptively quiet percussive section. This little section is suddenly filled with a deep, booming beat which carries a thick, full, bassy sound. Along with a soon added bassline and gentle backing synths, this tune is kicking right from the start! The breakdown is greeted with ambience and a synth melody rises from the delicate sounds. The melody is driven by a synth which is similar to the one found in 'Rogue'. It also has hook-like characteristics and so is really catchy. In turn, this catchiness gives the track a really uplifting party feel to it. The melodic sections are cleverly broken up by a passage which is dominated by a grinding, twisted synth which forcefully powers out a stabbed out rhythm. This leads you into one final enjoyable melodic section which ends this track off nicely.
AA: Re:Locate Feat. Menno de Jong - Spirit The B-side sees Re:Locate team up with Menno de Jong and the results are top notch once again. 'Spirit' bides its time as it progresses through its opening sections, building on a punchy kick, bubbly, rolling bass and delicate, gentle synths. The breakdown is drawn out, focusing on a slow and deliberate plucked melody. This section is so calming, you barely notice the strings in the background enhancing the sound, nor the new emerging melody which suddenly transforms into a huge synth led riff. This riff sticks when the track drops back in, and it's just awesome. It carries a truly emotional essence, an endearing and joyful sound which repeats and repeats but never loses its power. Fantastic trance.
