A promising young Dutch producers duo is responsible for this release on Recover's sublabel Flux Delux Digital. Included are the original plus mixes by Miikka Leinonen and Araich, with support coming from Above & Beyond and Armin... Click in for a review.
Dutchmen Stijn Coppieters and Roland Andriese are responsible for the Vast Vision project. In their relatively short career, they have already released a good few singles on labels like Flux Delux, Real Music and Monster Tunes, as well as remixes for Alter Ego and Lost Language. This time around they hit us up with the follow-up to 'Aurora', which was brought out on Flux Delux as well a while ago.
A-side: Original Mix 'Ellipse' sports a warm, meaty trancey vibe with its pulsating basslines, meaty drums and well fed drive right from its start. Its sound is very full (perhaps even too full at times) and quite contemporary, filled with loads of FX, sweeping high synths and arrays of subtle melodies here and there. The cozy, thick atmosphere gets another boost during the breakdown by bringing in a quite sensible strings interlude, gearing you up quite neatly for the main melody. It's really classy; while it isn't too rapid, it does maintain a superbly elevating ambiance with its serenely placed notes, injecting themselves into the rest of the track with fiercely placed energy. While at some points the track seems a little 'overproduced', it does stand out because of its magnificent riff. Nice one!
B1: Miikka Leinonen Remix Now for the remix that lifts this tune to unimaginable heights! Miikka Leinonen brings us a fantastic full-on trance interpretation, featuring huge amounts of power all through. Contrasting with the original, this remix's sound is more clean and polished. Beautiful, clear synths flow through the build flawlessly, creating a superbly melodic experience filled with superb chord changes all the way to the break. Suddenly, the track comes to a short halt, granting you a few seconds of rest... This is soon thrown to pieces though by introducing a gentle yet razorsharp edition of the original's main melody. The boost that the track gets here is pure bliss! The chords are being energized in a totally amazing way by letting it go hand in hand with a fast beast of a new melody. The drums and percussion work out like a charm here, pumping along with its silken sounding structure in a magnificent way. This remix has it all! The use of melodies is great during the build, the powerup in the breakdown is totally flabbergasting and the climaxes are of the smile-inducing type. Play this to a trance minded crowd and I'm sure a few people will faint because of sheer happiness. Massive massive massive!
B2: Araich Remix Time for a more techy interpretation after the uplifting crazyness we just experienced. Ariach has remade 'Ellipse' to become a rather dark, mysterious track. Pumping beats, ragged basslines and industrial FX are doing the rounds here, slowly extending the tune using wicked vocal chants and a mean, raw ambiance. I like how a few of the melodies from the original have been used during the breakdown. They've been rearranged to become a more vague, gloomy affair, backed up using mysterious synth along the way. Every now and then the drums and percussion return, granting some harsh climaxes to do their thing here and there. Here and there? Well yes, 'cause the structure of the tune is not like we're used to: its breakdown is very extensive and builds up and down constantly, with them raw beats returning multiple times. Nonetheless, this is quite a nice remix which adds well to the package because of it being of a different style than the other ones.

Conclusion:
All right, the original is a nice piece of trance, but Miikka Leinonen's mix is the one that's going to cause havoc all over. It's one of the best pieces of uplifting trance I've heard this year! The amount of energy in there is just crazy. Araich's remix is cool too with its raw, harsh feel. All in all a great release which once again adds to Recover's reputation in a really positive way.
