Germany based trance label Ligaya is back in the running with a new release by Normen Flaskamp under one of his many guises. Activa provides a remix, so let's find out what we're dealing with here.
Normen is mostly known for his productions under his Normen Paris, Aviation and Hunter aliases. 'Satellite' is his most recent creation, out now on Ligaya Recordings with a remix by Rob Stevenson aka Activa...
A-side: Activa Remix Rob is actually one of the co-founders Conspiracy, the UK label known for its releases by the likes of Jon O'Bir, Peter Dafnous and Kai del Noi. The remix for 'Remembrance' has become a very clear, straightforward piece of trance, loaded with thumping van Dyk'ish bassdrums, pushing lines of bass and smooth plucks of trancey synth. It shines out a very contemporary uplifting atmosphere, which is accentuated greatly during the breakdown: the main melody consists of fast paced rhythms, churning out some effective chord changes along its way. It's of the quite elevating type with its high notes and calm drive, a thing which should definitely work well in the clubs. Activa has rebuilt the climaxes to a slightly more minimal affair, stabbing out bits of melo here and there. While this is quite contrasting to the breakdown, it does work out quite well because of the overall nice flow of the track. A good piece of contemporary trance!
B-side: Original Club Mix Flaskamp's original does things differently. It has a slightly warmer feel coming with it, enhanced by deep, rumbling basslines and a cozy use of drums and percussion. Slowly, it goes up a few gears by implementing subtle hints to multiple melodic elements during its build. Slightly raw synth stabs and a piano-like rhythm take care of things here, while the tune steadily extends itself until it reaches the breakdown. Here, the riff we heard in Activa's remix returns in its fullest form; in a way, it is brought in a less powerful way than in the remix, but the sheer subtlety compensates for this quite nicely. It engenders a really calm, soothing feel, making this quite the relaxing piece of trance combined with the mild percs and deep bassline. Not bad at all!
Conclusion:
'Remembrance' comes in two rather different mixes that fill in for each other quite nicely. Activa's remix is of the harsh, powerful type, while the original does things in a more subtle way. Quite the nice release!
