With Rank 1 playing live to thousands of people with some material from their new material, Yves Deruyter banging out those hard trancers and Johan Gielen with some new Airscape material, this is a party definitely going to stay in the top ranks of 2002 parties!!!
Trance Energy report……
I’m not going to tell what I did before it, because you aren’t interested in that, instead I’m going to start with TRANCE ENERGY.
We got there at about 10 pm, and quite to my surprise, going inside wasn’t a problem, no massive amounts of people waiting to get inside, but a quick and steady passing through. The body-search was a laugh though :)
First DJ we saw was ‘Belgian Legend’ Yves De Ruyter, in the Hard Trance room, who was really hard, and really good. After that, onto to the Chill Out Room, where they were playing some scary movie, don’t know which one, but the few parts I saw were very interesting. We were in the Chill Out Room for a meetup. Mostly people from another big trance site, about 25-30 I think, and it was great.
Back to Yves after that little meet-up, and he was GREAT the rest of the set, didn’t expect less of him, he filled my expectations to the very last bit. Very hard, very good track selection. Some tunes I remembered him playing were • Yves De Ruyter – Back To Earth • And a lot of others, didn’t hear his entire set.
Then we went back to the Main Room for the highlight of the event, Rank 1 Live Performance, and seeing a part of their Sensation performance, I was expecting a lot. It started of real slow, trancey, and there was this huge mirrorball, and a lady was dancing all over it, she was wearing a suit just like the mirror. And to top it off, there was this gigantic laser pointed to her, so when she was dancing, the whole room was being lit. Really great to see. They played a lot of their tunes, but modified for the live performance, such as ‘Airwave’, ‘Such Is Life’, ‘Black Snow’ and of course ‘Awakenings’. They also played a lot of other stuff that will be on their soon-to-be released album.
After their performance, I went backstage, because I had arranged for a meeting between Rank 1 and myself, and they were so relieved that the live performance was over. Took them weeks/months to prepare, and finally it was over. A huge load fell off their shoulders. They told me that this performance was much better then Sensation, but it was all captured on tape, so you won’t miss it, because they are going to give a DVD with their album, so everyone, go buy it!
(there will be another interview with them about their performance, their preparations, impressions, et al…)
After that, I was in awe, went to Kai Tracid, but didn’t pay attention that much.
Then we went to see Johan Gielen, who was for me THE MAN of the evening. He delivered a great set, great tunes, great mixing, and the whole arena, I think about 20.000 peope were going mental to his set. Especially when he dropped ‘Twisted’, man, the sight of 20.000 people jumping up and down, is so unbelievable. In between two beats, when there was a long melody, he put up his lighter, and was waving with it, then everyone who had a lighter, took it out, and started waving too. Such a scene of beauty.
Some tunes Gielen played: • Svenson & Gielen – Twisted (Energy Mix) • Svenson & Gielen – The Beauty Of Silence • Svenson & Gielen – We Know What You Did… • Dj Tiësto – Lethal Industry (Svenson & Gielen Remix) • Marco V – GODD (Original Mix) • Push – The Legacy (Svenson & Gielen Remix) • ….
After Gielen, Cosmic Gate had the honours of ending Trance Energy, and HOW???? They played a lot of their own tunes, like ‘Fire Wire’, ‘Exploration Of Space’, ‘Back To Earth’ and ‘The Truth’ (new song I think). They kept on pushing the limits to the max, and they even played about 30 minutes longer then expected.
My impression: BLISS, absolutely GREAT, loved every bit of it. And the one way stream, was a good idea, better to walk a bit, then to get stuck in some hall without getting out.
