One half of Way Out West makes his first appearance on Marco V's label with the follow-up to the massive 'Cold Drink, Hot Girl'. Provided on the disc are the original and a remix, both heavily supported by the DJ elite...
Of course, we all know the producer behind the track reviewed here form his classic collaboration with Nick Warren on the Way Out West project. Jody's first solo appearance 'Cold Drink, Hot Girl' appeared on Distinctive earlier this year, gaining massive support from a wide variety of DJ's spinning lots of different styles. Now up for release on Marco V's In Charge label is mister Wisternoff's second individual outing, so let's see what exactly we're being treated with this time around...
A-side: Original Right from the start, this one immediately showcases Jody's more housey side. A really funky, shiny bassline and a very crisp use of percussion take on a leading role, assisted by an intricate use of subtle piano lines, subtle yet greatly effective SFX and multiple bassy synth riffs to complete the overall picture. The overall production is really smooth and tidy, flowing along greatly with that friendly sounding b-line and all the subtle little melodic hints that are being given throughout the track's body. It gets a really nice twist when a lovely violin part starts jamming around, serving as a short interlude in between beats. They don't just go on as they were, though: Jody has implemented this genious sounding 'whooshy', rapid effect right in the middle of everything, creating a very original, bouncy vibe. This is a great listening track, but it's also very usable as a building tune during a DJ-set of course. Quality with a capital Q!
B-side: Remix This remix provided on the flip of the disc is more trancy. And in a way, it more proggy. As you can see, I'm having trouble descibing what exactly this is, but I do know that it's a very very nice addition to the package. While not many (if any) elements from the original are present as far as I can hear, this is a total tune by itself because of its classy continously streaming melodies, totally addictive punchy bassline and excellent use of smoothly riding drums and percussional elements. Slowly but gradually, it builds and builds gaining strength from a vast array of magnificent, inventively brought melo's. A guitar-driven, less paceful part of the track serves as a small resting point, then for that big, sharp bassline to return again together with all its wonderful accompanying melodies. This isn't your standard track; its sound is immensely intricate, filled with tricks and cool twists all over the place. Another very fine piece of music.

Conclusion:
This release is just excellent. Jody's productional skills are high as ever, delivering two very classy pieces of dance music filled with inventiveness and originality. While I don't see many similarities in these two mixes, I do know that both of these are going to sit in my memory for quite a while. Top stuff!
