The quality trance label Fundamental has an interesting rehash of two of last year's big tunes on offer, remixed by Alex M.O.R.P.H. and Thomas Datt...
:: Solid Globe - North Pole Vs. Sahara :: Fundamental :: FUN527
A: North Pole Vs. Sahara (Alex M.O.R.P.H. Remix) This is an interesting idea - Alex M.O.R.P.H. decided to take two of Solid Globe's popular tunes, 'North Pole' and 'Sahara', and remix them together in his own special uplifting trance style. The result, I'm happy to say, is very impressive. After digging out my 'Sahara' and 'North Pole' vinyls, I could see how these two tracks have been merged. In a way, it makes so much sense and you wonder why this never happened sooner. The track has benefited from M.O.R.P.H.'s sound, and so it is bigger and has much more body than before, instead of sporting the solitary and purely lonesome emotional feel that the originals held. Sure, there are still feelings of solitude and tranquil desolation, but they are backed up by vast, epic essences. In fact, that's a great word to describe this - a trance epic. The first half of the track is where you hear the melody from 'Sahara', held in place by soft basses and a great layer of acoustic strumming. The breakdown is where the 'North Pole' melody appears, and the trancey ambience from which it arises really suits it. It plays out for a minute or so after the breakdown, backed by pads and synths, whereupon it is joined by 'Sahara' and they play side by side. 'Sahara' is a little bit drowned out by 'North Pole', so after this they alternate before the track reaches its final breakdown and ultimately begins to wind down. A great idea, expertly executed. A wicked track indeed.
AA: North Pole (Thomas Datt Remix) Here 'North Pole' has basically just had a revamp. It is paced up a little and features all of Thomas Datt's up to date and futuristic trancey synths, sounds and sfx. There is a pulsing off beat synth rhythm which is a new addition to the main melody. This riff come chord progression features more than the main 'North Pole' melody itself, which is predominant during the breakdown, giving way to its new and updated counterpart in the main sections that follow.
Conclusion:
The whole 'North Pole' vs. 'Sahara' idea is what makes this release so good. This expertly done A-side mash-up is an epic piece of trance which will stir memories and evoke emotion. This one is out soon on Fundamental, so don't miss it.
