Peter Martin is an established producer, who has countless successful EPs on labels like Electronic Elements. One of his first releases, “Perfect Wave” earned him a reputation as a consistent producer of quality progressive house. His latest EP on Morrison Recordings is a breakbeat affair that has all the makings of another stellar release for Peter. Read on for the full review!
“Sunday Melody” begins with some brilliantly programmed strings, lush and lazy pads, plus some very nice low end effects. The track almost feels like a piece of downtempo, save for the fact that it is about 125bpm. During the first break, countless synths, pads, and tripped out basslines fade in and out admist a catchy percussion pattern. Once this dreamy break is over, the breakbeat chugs along, carrying the track higher and higher with more strings and emotive melodies. After a couple minutes of this, an uplifting melody takes center stage until the second break comes in, which is filled with yet more subdued melodies. This break also serves as the outro of the track, and makes “Sunday Melody” feel similar to a piece of classical music. Excellent stuff.
“Distant Reflection” begins with some cleverly delayed percussion that seems to wrap itself around your head. This interesting effect and the quickly ensuing breakbeat would make this track an awesome opener to a more progressive minded set. As the breakbeat continues, a bassline slowly erupts from the lower end of the track. These thick bass stabs are complimented nicely by a laid back melody. Eventually another very trancey melody is mixed in, which gives the track a very uplifting feel. The track continues in this uplifting fashion until the breakbeat outro.
Conclusion:
Both tracks are worthy of a listen, but “Sunday Melody” really stands out against “Distant Reflection.” Regardless of this reviewer’s opinion, there is truly something for everyone in this EP, and is another great release from Canada’s Morrison Recordings.
