Two quality producers, Galen Behr and Hydroid, bump their heads together for this cool new slice of action on the Yakuza imprint...
:: Galen Behr Vs. Hydroid - Carabella :: Yakuza :: YAK015
A: Carabella (Original Remix) The Original Mix of 'Carabella' carries a lot of Hydroid's sound and influence. It is a really calm piece of music. It features slow, thudding beats, deep and crawling coldharbour-esque basses and an emphasised percussive rhythm, which makes the track easy to follow. The most mellow of breaks is where the main 'Carabella' melody is introduced. It is done so with ease and gentle precision, giving off such a dreamy essence. Through the waves of smooth euphoria, the melody is enhanced by a few extra notes later on, really just topping off the sound perfectly. The only drawback (which may not be a drawback for some, mind!) is that this tune weighs in at a stock 130BPM, which is a bit on the slow side. But then again, that's part of Hydroid's style, which when mixed up with Galen Behr's trancey melodies makes for a nice sounding combination.
AA: Carabella (Galen Behr Vs. Orjan Nilsen Remix) Orjan Nilsen steps up for a remix alongside Galen Behr on the flipside of this record. Orjan has already had an amazing two track release on Intuition so I was looking forward to hearing his input on this nice tune. Needless to say, there was no disappointment. The production has been accelerated to a comfortable 138BPM and a lot of the sounds - the kicks, bass and backing synths - have been upgraded and re-energized to create a much more lively, active and upbeat feel. Little nibbly synths and whispers of the main melody fill up the initial stages, whilst string pads flow in to the breakdown as the beat fades in order to bring on that melody. And what a melody it now is! Obviously the same, but played by new synths it has more life and energy - more trance, more passion. It's a wonderful, flowing sound which builds and fades then finally rises up into an awesome climax which will have crowds simply begging for more. The energy and the buzz this track gives off, whilst still sitting firmly in trancey territory is simply brilliant. Those 'extra notes' I mentioned in the Original Mix would've been a nice addition to this remix too, but it does just as well without them. Utterly enjoyable music!
Conclusion:
Quite the trancey tip for a Yakuza record! The Original Mix is incredibly relaxed whilst the Behr and Nilsen remix on the other side is just absolutely storming. Go sniff this one out!
