Opus Ink is a combination of Satoshi Tomiie and Auidiofly’s musical minds. This collaboration between them is due out now on SAW Recordings and it’s called the Boot Street EP.
:: Darkroomboot :: Resonator 404
If you’re looking for hard banging stuff then I would not point this EP in your direction. If you’re after some very intelligent dark atmospheric house with an edge of techno to it then these two records are right up your street.
Darkroomboot has a very deep and dark sounding beat that starts the track. Drips of sound start to trickle in from the start with the beat pounding away. Sounds build from the beat as a techy groove pops in and out with the backing layers creeping in to create a dark deep vibe to the track. Those dark atmospheric sounds in the background change in tone as the track adds more layers to the fold. It gradually gets louder and more prominent with the symbol kicks building up the noise. They fizzle out as does the background echo’s and the track returns to its simple beat and riff. The riff is very edgy and effected and gets played with as the track goes on but keeps to the same pattern. The sounds build back and so does the atmospheric layers in the background changing tone and increasing in volume. This track is deep and down tempo with a catchy riff going through it.
Changing the vibe Resonator 404 is more upbeat. It’s filled with a funky riff and a kicking beat that gives it the more uplifting and jolly vibe. The record starts off with a soft beat that slowly adds on layers of symbols and neat sounding rolling drums. The bassline that is yet to introduce itself gets build up nicely by the background echo that builds up and cuts off with a rolling drum sequence. The groove gets belted in and then changed into a different tone with the original still in echo on it. The track gets a little funky with its sequence of sounds and bassline groove. When it cuts the mood within the track changes into a darker build as the main melody begins to build. The groove is still in there but dubbed down as the background sounds sizzle in the distance. The melody comes right in and is a rework of the main groove that’s been kicking in on the track. It ends as it starts with a neat drum roll with the track kicking back into a funky groove and inviting riff.
Conclusion:
Two very different sounds come away from this EP. Darkroomboot is very down tempo and has a dark atmosphere to it where as Resonator 404 has a more up beat edge to it and funky little sequence hats catchy to the ear. My pick out of these two would be the latter as the first may be a little two dark for my taste. In all though we have a good collaboration here, which, has brought two well produced and organised records. This is yet another good release for SAW.
