One in a series of recent releases from Five AM is a track from Insignia, who've been dormant for quite some time. It seems that they're back in true trancey style, along with a remix from their alter-ego, Redd Square...
:: Insignia - Kaleidoscope Eyes :: Five AM :: FAM057
1) Kaleidoscope Eyes (Original Mix) The Original Mix grasps current trends well and gets going with a coarse and grimey bassline which provides an electro and hence undeniably groovy feel. This is nicely offset though with the good use of female vocal "aahs" and a soft and faint synth which laces the track with elegant sprinkles of notes every now and then. As the breakdown develops, this synth begins to play a bigger part and it is given an interesting feature as its sound becomes more and more distorted until the track drops back in. From here, it's a pretty standard affair, but the combination of that dirty bassline, uplifting synth and vocals keeps this a very positive listening experience.
2) Kaleidoscope Eyes (Redd Square Mix) The Redd Square Remix immediately has a lot more spring in its step. The bassline still has an electro feel, but it's not as rough this time round and it is also much more lively, arpeggiating heavily. The female vocals and synths return too, this time giving off a much more trancey feel as opposed to the reserved and subdued sounds of the Original Mix. There is way more ambience in the breakdown, and it feels a lot more trancey overall. This extra trancey feeling makes for a much more powerful drop and it is here that the synths play a much bigger part in creating a higher euphoria than before. Also, at 9 minutes long, you get treated to a second breakdown and a second section of powerful, uplifting trance.
3) Kaleidoscope Eyes (Redd Square Vocal Mix) This vocal remix is the same as the standard Redd Square Mix aside from some vocals which are now present throughout the track. They give the track a more commercial feel, which may help depending on when/where it was played out.

Conclusion:
More strong trance from Five AM. It's good to see that Insignia / Redd Square can return in such good form.
