One of HCR's latest releases comes from the hands of an up and coming producer from South Wales. Discovered by In Charge head honcho Marco V last summer, this tune has been raving and dirting up dancefloors everywhere... Head on in for a full review.
NuSense's name on tax forms is actually Stephen Cleary. Living in Cardiff, this twenty-two year old producer is starting to become a full-fledged artist with an own digital label coming up, as well as with having a few interesting tracks under his belt. Picked up first by Marco V and Sander van Doorn, this release has gotten quite some attention over the past few months by the likes of PvD, Tiësto, Marcel Woods, Eddie Halliwell etcetera. Time for a review.
A-side: Deep Down & Dirty The title says it all, actually. This is a downright wicked, totally dirty combo of tech, house and whatever lies in between, filled to the max with filthy synth stabs guided onwards by a relatively low BPM'ed overall structure. This doesn't damage the power the track creates right from its initial moments, though: a badass vibe just explodes out of this tune, hinging on mysteriously placed vocal snips, a multitude of inscrutable tiny melodies and of course that stomping, distorted army of dirty bass that pumps through continuously. The multiple climaxes that this track inhibits are generated in a very cool way, mostly by injecting a weird yet superbly well working bit of tension-building, repeating percussion. No wonder why all the biggies have showcased this in their sets, 'cause it's quite the inventive blend of styles, intermingled with phat, intoxicating raw basses and an unmistakably wicked atmosphere hanging over it. Nice!
B-side: Twisted Rose This one kind of goes on in the same style as its A-side counterpart. At least, judging from the first parts. Gradually, it builds up using this sturdy, weirdly pulsating distorted bass synth, blending in with another bit of well worked out mysterious vocal work. While 'Deep Down & Dirty' is quite the straightforward dancefloor bomb, so to speak, this one requires a tad more 'open' mind, so to speak. It's a tad simpler structure-wise and makes use of repetitive elements constantly. The bass synth I just talked about plays a leading role throughout the whole track, sometimes interrupted by them vocal snips. Actually, this one's a bit tóo simple to like I guess. While simplicity can be effective in tunes of this sort, I think in this one it just doesn't work out.
You can listen to samples of these tracks, and buy them if you want to, in our very own i:Vibes store:

Conclusion:
Anyone should definitely go give 'Deep Down & Dirty' a listen. Even if its just to hear how a blend of different styles can work out so wickedly. It's a very destructive bastard of a tune filled with crunchy basses and a great floor potential! 'Twisted Rose' on the other hand, doesn't really do justice to it's flipside companion by being too repetitive and dull for my liking.
