Get ready for an epic from Fenology Records in the form of a new release from Woody van Eyden with support mixes from the Peaktwins and Giuseppe Ottaviani.
No doubt if you have been keeping up to date with the playlists of Paul van Dyk and Armin van Buuren you will have allready heard this record over the past month or so. It's nearly time for a full on release with three enjoyable mixes al offering a slightly different flavour for your turntable.
Release Date: 29th January
:: Original Mix (Sample) :: Guiseppe Otaviani Mix (Sample) :: Peaktwins Mix (Sample)
The Original mix is a very well crafted tradiotional epic piece of trance that within it contains one speaker slamming hook that will keep you coming back for more. The build up is nice and steady with a solid soft edge beat that feeds in the sounds. The build up riff sets the track up for what really is an epic breakdown to follow after. As the beat fades away and the riff becomes the main sound it's changed and channeled into a melody that for me sounds like electric guitar chord changes but in a different sound. It's got serious atmospheric content to it and blasts in and out of the track when the beat flows back in excellently. When I say guitar sounding riff do not think the Dogzilla type sound as this is entirly different. It comes in with a punch that fades away and flows out with an eltect tinged echo. One of the more originally crafted riffs I've heard for a while I have to say.
Giuseppe Ottaviani, or one half of Nu-NRG (I wonder what happened to the other guy) as I like to know him by, is on the remix duties here. He has created a very good reputation for himself throughout last year with very solid and speaker friendly productions in what could be said to be an evolution of the old Nu-NRG sound. Lets get into the mix anyway. The tough beat that Ottaviani uses in his tracks gets this track off to a banging start. Slip in some nicely worked percussion and feed in an energetic riff to build up things before they bubble up in anticipation of the main melody. The sound of which has not changed from the original mix's but its not so much of a silent melody driven epic rather a constantly beating, breaking and stutter beat along with it. The bass changes and use of mini riff's and echo printed sounds create a burst of energy within the track. It's a bit like the original but on a heavily improved diet having that little bit more muscle and tougher approach. What you expect from the remix by Giuseppe is all in here and no doubt this mix will be rather popular.
One epic edge mix and one banging mix so far in this little threesome but what can we expect from the Peaktwins? What you can expect is an uplifting trance record with an orcas trial tinted melody keeping true to the original. I'll elaborate on that as your probably thinking what the hell he is on about. The build up on this starts with a punchy beat and a rather tasty synth driven riff. In the background feeding into the foreground comes another one with a higher pitch that overtakes the previous riff and things start to die down in the track as the beat cuts back and the riff gets quieter. Things almost go silent but a series of strings lead to the melody that starts to build up. It's bass changing soft epic edged melody that leads kicks in the main hook that the other mixes featured but suddenly morph’s into an uplifting synth based string with the beats building. The beat explodes back into the track and what follows is a string of uplifting trance with the original hook fed in as an extra to add to the sound. On first run of this track I had to say it did not strike me as strong as the previous two mixes but with another play it cliked into gear. Good build up with a classical sounding intorduction top the main uplifting melody in the track. Good work Peaktwins!
Conclusion:
Fenology are onto a winner with this release. Woody van Eyden has created a very fine Trance record and chosen two different styled but both effective remixes that make the release stronger. I don’t think there is a bad mix in this little lot, not to my ears anyway but you may disagree. Even so there is a mix for everyone in here and a riff in there that needs to be heard to give it justice. It’s out right on the end of this month and I recommend you go grab a copy.
