Airwave and Ferry Tayle teamed up once again to deliver the follow-up to last summer's amazing 'Proglifter'. Again served in an original mix and a mix by mister Tayle, let's see if this can measure with earlier Cape Town singles...
The Cape Town project has been doing the rounds since the start of the millennium. While one of its initial members, Frederico Santini, left after a few releases, Laurent Véronnez aka L-Vee continued the project with blinding tunes like 'Cinema' and 'Pitstop'. Nowadays, a new second member by the name of Ferry Tayle has joined in, with his first co-production under this alias being last year's massive 'Proglifter'. Making their way into 2007, Laurent & Ferry have produced 'Percivalesque', which again consists of two mixes both taking over eleven (!!) minutes...
1. Percivalesque (Original Mix) Starting off in good ol' Cape Town fashion with a delightful intro, you already know this tune is going to deliver again. A superbly soothing piano melody takes on a leading role here, backed by that typical use of floating synth to create a very elevating atmosphere right from the beginning. The whole tune builds itself up in a very classy way, combining the smoothest of trancey percussion with gliding pieces of uplifting melody, silken yet deep basses and of course that amazing piano rhythm. Everything shines out a truly gentle, laidback feel, creating an amazingly calming experience during its first six minutes. The best has yet to come, though! Gradually, a wonderfully uplifting melody enters in, amplifying the amount of 'soul' this tune has in it greatly. Subtly, it makes place for a more sweeping rhythm, blending in very neatly with the piano chords and all the other elements. This is top-class trance featuring wonderful melodic compositions and an overall unimitable flow. Two thumbs up!
2. Percivalesque (Ferry Tayle Universal Language Mix) Mister Tayle spices up the original with his faster, more energetic interpretation. The introductory parts are crafted in a more mysterious way, with a full-on trancy bit of percussion and basslines pounding through just a while later. While this is definitely less 'calming' than the original, so to speak, it does have that utterly smooth feel coming with it, mainly induced by them delicate beats and continuously flowing arrays of melody. The whole thing sounds so soft and tender, almost making me want to pet my speakers somehow. A notable difference with the original is that Ferry hasn't really implemented the piano melody during the build, but instead uses it to full effect during the breakdown. And boy, does it work out!! The break is of the totally spine-tingling affair, filled with classy string interludes and other blissfull material. A great accompanying, powerful yet still heartwarming melody enters in, completing the tune in an outstanding way. An astonishing remix.
Conclusion:
If this is what 2007's trance is going to be like, we have one hell of a year in front of us. This release is totally flabbergasting. Both mixes are top-notch trance, with the original making use of its calmer feel, while Ferry Tayle's remix does things differently with a superbly intense uplifting interpretation. I'm not going to bother you with more adjectives, just go have a listen and find out for yourself!
