The last of the big albums of 2006 that I'm going to cover is Tilt's recent album which basically consists of a bunch of their top quality new tracks & remixes, sought after productions and old favourites, hence the title - 'Vaults'.
:: Tilt - Vaults :: Lost Language :: LOSTCDLP09
Tracklisting 01) Angry Skies (Cressida Mix) 02) If This Is Love 03) Dublin Kicks 04) Southern Sky 05) Come Closer 06) Walking Away 07) Rising Son 08) In This World 09) Invisible (Supernatural Mix) 10) I Know You're Afraid
This album covers quite a spread of sounds and moods, but in general there's a large trancey feel to a lot of the breakbeat rhythms and chilled beats that can be found throughout the 10 tracks on the album.
Things start really nicely with the deep and soulful trance number from way back when, 'Angry Skies', with haunting vocals from Maria Naylor. Things continue on the vocal tip with 'If This Is Love' which uses an interesting 'vinyl crackle' sample as a breakbeat intro and features some light hearted and gentle lyrics. The mood changes dramatically over the next few tracks with some rather industrial sounding breaks and then some deep, eerie and moody progressive trance. As things continue, the style which seems to shine through the most is that these productions are more like 'songs', if you will. With flowing themes and lots of vocal elements. One distinct gem on this album is the Supernatural Mix of 'Invisible', which features a trancey, vocal tinted breakdown which is over 5 minutes and 30 seconds long! The compilation is finished off with some more breakbeat sounds though there is a trancey vein to be heard, and a vocal element thanks to some creative use of some samples from The Matrix.
Conclusion:
Overall, this is a fine collection of tracks which all have something in common - Tilt's involvement in one form or another. It comes across as more of an easy listening album, but one which shouldn't be ignored because there are some really decent and varied productions to be heard here.
