The next in the Global Underground compilation series has just been announced with number 31 being a worlds first solo release from one half of Deep Dish, Dubfire.
Global Underground has had a long history of successful mix compilations. You may remember me informing you of the release before this one mixed by Nick Warren at the end of last year. That compilation is due out at the end of February. if that is not something to look forward two number 31 has just been announced.
Deep Dish have already mixed a few compilations in the series but its Dubfire (otherwise known as Ali Shirazinia) who will be stretching out on his first solo outing for this new one. It's his first ever solo mix compilation and what better platform to release it on than on one of the most respected series and labels going.
“This mix is more about who I am, as opposed to Deep Dish. This is an extension of all my influences from day one and where my head is at currently. I’ve always been about pushing the envelope musically and anytime there’s a new sound, I’m paying attention.”Dubfire
For those of you familiar with Deep Dish's style you can expect something a little different here. There have been quite a few artists who started off in a duo or group and then ventured into solo projects had good success with their releases. Guiseppe Ottaviani would be one just off the top of my head since he finished producing with Andrea Ribeca as Nu-NRG, the latter of which I have read of heard nothing about for a while so I’m not sure what he's up to at the moment. Deep Dish are well and truly still together though but mixes like this give an artist to really showcase their style as an individual.
Growing up in the Washington, DC area, Dubfire spent much of his youth playing the guitar in school bands and listening to heavy doses of classic Hip-Hop, jazz/rare groove, dub reggae, new wave and industrial. Dubfire was also influenced by the local punk scene and the music of hometown bands like Fugazi and Minor Threat. Members of these bands also worked at a local record store called Yesterday And Today Records, and this is where Dubfire first picked up on the sounds of acts such as Kraftwerk, Ministry, Jesus & Mary Chain, Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, Adrian Sherwood/On-U Sound and Einstürzende Neubauten. Through this heavy industrial influence, namely the sound of Chicago’s famed Wax Trax! label, Dubfire discovered the Chicago house scene and what labels like Trax and D.J. International Records were releasing.
What's on the compilation then? For house fans you can find tracks from the likes of Sebastian Ingrosso, Robbie Rivera and Nic Fanciulli as well as a few tracks from Dubfire himself.
