 Don Diablo may not have the biggest following outside his homeland but the Dutch have just voted him their most popular DJ at the annual GKA Awards.
I must have had my head buried in the sand for some time as I would have not picked out Don as a Dutch DJ fresh on my mind. The Dutch population, or at least the ones who take time to vote in their annual GKA awards, rate him the most popular DJ in the country.
The GKA Awards are one of the Netherlands's longest running and the only remaining award show for the Dutch dance music industry. The mighty DJ Tiesto won the award last year but he was not even amongst the list of nominees for this years event. Armin van Buuren and Fedde Le Grande: who have both had very strong releases last year with Fedde's 'Put Your hands Up For Detroit' arguable one of the most popular and most played dance record of 2006, were both put forward along with Don.
The Dutch dance population cast their votes and chose Don Diablo as the country's most popular DJ. He won the award for 'Most Sexy DJ' last year and the year but was excluded from the category this year, possible for being to sexy or just the fact that they didn't want him winning to many awards. It's a great honour to be chosen for the ward which is one of the biggest in Holland.
"2006 has been a very successful year for me with a lot of musical highs. However, these achievements definitely did not come overnight. I've invested a lot of time and energy in my music and therefore, this award is extra special to me."
Don Diablo
Don Diablo is a singer, songwriter, DJ, visualist and does very well running his own Label. He's been involved in Dance music for some time and its good to see him getting recognition for his work especially seeing as the competition for Dutch DJ's is pretty fierce if you think of the big names in dance music born in the country. He is currently performing DJ dates across Holland this month but keep a check on his web site for his latest appearances.
