Daniel Kandi makes one hell of a reappearance on UK trance label Anjunabeats with two pieces of music which will very likely blow your mind...

:: Daniel Kandi - Child / Nova
:: Anjunabeats
:: ANJ076

A: Child (Original Mix)

Anjunabeats continue to go from strength to strength, having risen from being a fresh trance label several years ago to being an internationally recognised imprint commanding a massive fanbase, being the home of trance superstars Above & Beyond and also giving rise to what looks to be one of the most impressive online retailers of CD based trance music. That angular 'A' emblem is just simply undeniable.

Anyway, following new releases as I do, I came across talk of this Daniel Kandi - Child many months ago. It was causing quite a stir, to put it lightly. Though with Anjunabeats' infamous style of long timeframes between the earliest plays of a track and even its promo release, I decided to avoid this one until it was released. Upon finally hearing this music for the first time the hype is 100% understandable, for these two tracks are beyond heavenly.

'Child', begins normally enough. A short beat followed up quickly with a bright and lively trance bassline is built upon as pads and synths seep in from the surroundings. This is merely a facade though. The breakdown is long and deliberate. It is expertly timed and masterfully executed. From the misty depths of ambient serenity comes a melody which is angelic beyond belief. Played out by a pure synth with a gloriously subtle hint of piano, this melody is enriched by a rapturous build up which explodes into truly blissful trance headed up by a deep and rich chord progression which is full of euphoric energy and emotion. It's almost too much for the soul to handle when the melody returns.

The overall result of this track is triple distilled beauty. A piece of heaven, etched onto a slice of vinyl.

B: Nova (Original Rise Mix)
A lot of the time an A-side masterpiece is backed up by a mediocre B-side which is likely to see the furry side of a slipmatt far longer than it's going to be seeing the flashing effect of a strobe in a club. With this release though, the reports I was hearing were very different. What people claimed was that here was a record which would incur major indecision about what side to play...

For me, 'Nova' was a grower. Likely I didn't give it enough time after hearing 'Child' but oh what a mistake to make!

'Nova', too, begins innocently enough. The beat is punchier and the bassline is deeper and sports a nice groove. A gentle synth presence tops off an introduction which makes this track very very mix-friendly. The same formula is followed here - a myriad of synths build and build slowly, resulting in an eventually very rich and enjoyable sound. Another gentle and subtle melody begins to play out from the cushioning ambiance of the breakdown and a piano sprinkles some atmospheric notes every now and then. Once more the power of truly trancey pads and synths is demonstrated as a sumptuous build up drops into a clean and powerful melody which eventually steers its way back into the main 'chorus'. Every time your hear this melody, it will become better and better. A lot of its elegance and beauty is hidden away in subtlety. There are so many awesome levels to this tune - it is made up of so many tiny pieces of excellence from the spot on use of echo and reverb to the almost unnoticeable backing strings.
