This most recent release for Andy Bagguley's Instant Music label has been doing the rounds since late last year. It's a four track release comprising the talents and efforts of a host of top trance producers resulting in some pure quality trance...
:: Redshift & Van Der Vleuten - Blue Mountain :: Instant Music :: IM002
1) Blue Mountain (Original Mix) Joost van der Vleuten and Johan Vermeulen teamed up to create 'Blue Mountain'. They must've had a clear vision for this track because as the growing intro passes by, it's easy to spot the quality held within the production. Carefully crafted synths, well timed sfx and a wonderful flow draw you into the music, then it hits you with a deep and enthralling set of chord changes played by delightfully smooth and rich pads. The main melody is patiently described by a clean and clear synth and is the perfect addiction to the tranceful beauty being played in the background. This music almost shimmers with sheer delight.
2) Blue Mountain (Activa Remix) Activa steps in for the first remix, immediately throwing in his tough, stomping kick drum. The mood is energized further with an active, rolling bassline, but that thick layer of pads comes in quickly to ensure the uplifting soul of the Original Mix remains intact. The pads have a bigger string influence in their sound and so the sound 'soars' a little more, creating a kind of earnest enthusiasm. The melody is kept intact and is played by a similar albeit higher pitched synth. The trancey feelings are still there, but a trade off is made between beauty and driving energy.
3) Blue Mountain (Andy Bagguley Remix) Label owner Andy Bagguley is stepping in for the next remix, and his production also features a much punchier kick. The bassline too has been spiced up and is now really lively and jitters out a constant rhythm. However, this new energy has been coupled with some new trancey riffs and so after the rather epic breakdown, you're treated to the more powerful sounds but which retain that all important uplifting trancey energy.
4) Blue Mountain (Lounge Inc Remix) The finishing touch on this release is a remix by Lounge Inc, who've transformed 'Blue Mountain' into a deep and melodic ambient track. A slow and gentle breakbeat lines the background, whilst slow and deliberate chord changes lead the soft and oh so subtle melodies which are played by a variety of soothing instruments. Very, very relaxing.

Conclusion:
A solid release. The two main remixes are strong and trancey whilst the ambient mix is a nice bonus. My favourite version is the original. It is very well produced indeed and just sounds beautiful and oozes quality.
