Finnish trance producer Miika Kuisma's latest release is a deep piece of prog which is out on the Subtraxx Digital label. Miika puts in two mixes himself whilst Sied van Riel puts in a third...
:: Miika Kuisma - One Step Behind The Mankind :: Subtraxx Digital :: SXXDD025
1) One Step Behind The Mankind (Original Mix) The Original Mix of 'One Step Behind The Mankind' consists of many crisp and clear sounds. The kicks are sharp, the percussion is edgy and the backing synths and sfx are fresh and airy. The breakdown also conveys this wide open and spacious feeling - a lot of it coming from what sounds like running water in the background. Nice and refreshing! As the track progresses, driven by the driving, proggy bass, you notice a cool sounding acid line which plugs away in the background, adding another layer of effortless momentum. The last big feature is the airy pipe sounding synth, the notes of which actually sound reminiscent of the awesome 'Universal Nation'.
2) One Step Behind The Mankind (Miika's Lost Method Mix) This remix takes a lot from the original. The bassline now 'warbles' more than before which creates a slightly different kind of energy. The synth is back with that familiar sounding melody but this time there are a few more elements to notice. The acid line is gone and is replaced by a small repeating riff which is really hypnotic. Also there is much more ambient glow coming from the background, making this remix feel far more spaced out and chilled out.
3) One Step Behind The Mankind (Sied van Riel Remix) Again Sied van Riel's tough style comes straight into play. The kicks have more punch, the bass has more bounce and the synth are more ferocious. The familiar melody is gone, but the new synths take on the repeating riff and instead of being hypnotic, it's much more driving and you can actually move to it instead of letting it bliss you out.

Conclusion:
Overall, a nice little triplet of progressive tracks in this release. One for all the prog lovers for sure, and also valuable for set building too.
