It's time for another Bates again..! The last releases were absolutely stunning, so can this also be a future hit? Let's check it out!
Benjamin Bates and his studiopartner Marco V are firing hit after hit at the Be Yourself label. Now it's time again for a Bates release on the Big & Dirty sub-label with two original tracks. Again a quality double A-sider?
A1) Benjamin Bates - On My Feet (The World Needs More..)
The summer is coming and mister Bates is very aware of that. On My Feet starts with some fresh beats and not too much hassle. Suddenly the track lies down and some buzz of children screaming appear on the background. Then the synth comes in with a very simple, but effective synth which reminds me a lot of Bates' older 'Whole' track. Some male vocals, which are actually those of Benjamin himself, are supporting the melody. In the break the vocals are being highlighted, also with the help of a vocoder, then the synth is coming up again very slowly to blow up again later. A laidback outro with the vocoded vocals give your legs some needed rest.. On My Feet is a real feel-good track which is just made for the festivals.
B1) Benjamin Bates - The Next Best Thing
The Next Best Thing is a track which includes all the known Bates elements: Fat basslines, addictive synths, weird sounds and humour. The track starts off with a smooth build up where some fun male vocal samples make you ready for the bassline which is about to be unleashed. And yes, again simple, but effective! A break with an electric guitar and weirdy French vocal samples makes you wonder where the hell Bates' inspiration is coming from. The beats and bassline return fast and will not change till the end of the track. This also highlights he weakest point of the track..there is no real diversity. But does it bore? No, certainly not. Bates is capable of making such melodies that you just want to hear over and over again.
Conclusion:
Two very different tracks, but both effective in their own way. On My Feet makes you want to run to the nearest ticket office to buy tickets for upcoming outdoor festivals. The Next Best Thing is real food for the clubs and keeps the crowd moving. Double A-sider? Yes. Bates is all about quality and this release makes me very curious about his upcoming album 'Recyclomania'.
