Ron van den Beuken's latest release sees him take a different approach. Along with a remix from heavyweight Randy Katana, prepare yourself for some tribal tech sounds...
:: R.V.D.B. - Access :: Reset Records :: RS024
A: Access (Randy Katana Remix) Sticking to his trademark sounds, Katana serves up some trademark tech trance with his distinctive tribal style beats. They're, big, thick and chunky and provide a lot of body to what is essentially quite a minimalistic track. There are massive stabs of rhythmic synth which 'hang' around with a lot of sustain after they're played, adding a sinister edge. Aside from some big build ups and drops back into tough, techy beats, this one will only really appeal to die hard fans as it seems to still need a bit of extra 'spice'.
AA: Access (Original Mix) On the flip, the Original Mix awaits. It holds a secret though - this B-side number is actually a monster! The pace of van den Beuken's original is faster, and the beats are huge. They're massive - they pound and boom and are carried by a constant deep rumble of satisfying bass. There are less tribal influences in the beat and much more tech/techno sounds. Along with the extra pace, the extra drive this creates is just what the track needs to benefit greatly. The synths also seem more energetic, they seem to have more focus and so put out a better sense of directed menace. The big builds and drops are also great moments in this track - they hit home so hard that they just command appreciation.

Conclusion:
While Katana's remix may seem a little flat to some, the Original Mix of 'Access' is way more powerful and will easily shake up a dancefloor.
