Diverted Recordings promised us the best of what hard trance has to offer and judging by these two tracks on this release, they're sticking to their word...
:: Vodka - Eternity / Focus :: Diverted Recordings :: DIVED005
1) Eternity 'Eternity' is a powerful track with massive beats and gritty, determined bass right from the start. The bassline develops more drive and the percussion is nicely enhanced to complement this effect. No riffs or melodies are present before the breakdown. This seems to add solidarity to the track - it's mean enough and tough enough to hold your attention easily until the wildly contrasting breakdown comes around. Here, ambient pads and breathless female vocals take charge until a somewhat classic melody begins to take shape from within the depths of the pads and synths. The melody is reassuringly uplifting and the synth itself has a kind of classic hard trance sound and feel. It all powers up once the track drops back in and the shift from techy trance to powerful hard trance is complete. The lead synth retains a thicker, softer sound rather than something over the top and too powerful, which is a massive plus here as a smooth flow seems to arise, as does a balance between the hard trance riffs and the techy drive from before the breakdown. Very high end stuff here.
2) Focus Whilst 'Focus' has hard trance drive and strength behind it, it also seems to borrow a lot from progressive and trance. Rolling basses and dream-like repetitive hooks along with a host of ambient sfx fill the track up until the breakdown. Here, much like 'Eternity', an uplifting melody is developed and played fully once the track drops back in. Once it does so, the emphasis seems to be more on the trance side of hard trance. The melodies and sub-melodies are dreamy and encapsulating whilst the bass and percussion unrelentlessly drives the track onwards.

Conclusion:
Two similar tracks in term of structure. 'Focus' is trancier, whilst 'Eternity' is a tougher and much more enticing production. Most definitely worth a look!
